I laugh when I realize my hatred for you is but a breath on a stone on a mountain on a planet in this space we call our existence.
2
Mexicans immigrants are cool. Transplants suck rhino.
3
Things change. Portland is full. We have lost our tolerance due to an onslaught of transplant douchebaggery. You can't rewind the clock, or cause us to stop flipping you the bird. Get over it.

Note to self: turn in those two unlicensed AirBnBs near Division. One less place for prospective transplants to nest.

You can't turn back the clock on the anger of Portlanders towards douchey transplants.

Things change- we now hate you.

There is a new bird in Portland and it's called the finger. Get over it.
5
Says bitter transplant that can't get any Portland pussy. Sorry, it's as dry as your beloved California beaches up in there when you tech bros start prattling on.

It's just a matter of time..... give it a few years. Schools will improve, home owners (Transplants) will invest in home improvements, etc.... They bitch because they're entitled. They claim "native," but they really just moved here a few years ago. Now they bitch because they plan for this. Move already! Save and move! It's not rocket science. Think about it. If you own a home in a hot market you're investing in your future. Stop paying rent! If you can't buy in PDX move!

Portland is now lame because of people like this I'Anon and PandaPDX. Time for you transplants to find the next cool place to live/infest. One question for PandaPDX though, do you live at the airport as your name implies?

Look, people get priced out everywhere. That's why it's important to go to college and get a solid education so you can compete for a job! Your family worked at a furniture place for 80 years... did you really think that was a sustainable job in a city on the west coast? I watch parents pull their kids out of class to go on a theme park vacations, then come back and question the teacher, "why is my kid failing in math?" They're failing because of YOU! Stop having kids when you can't even graduate high school! The educational system sucks here and you guys talk about how awesome everything was.... Bullshit! The reason why most are not paying the bills is because the generations that proceeded us, the "entitled silver platter generation," in Portland failed in actually teaching what capitalism means. When schools improve, roads are fixed, buildings are repaired, etc. Thank the Transplants! I'm sorry it's expensive, but RENT CONTROL should be enforced, not blaming people who actually worked hard through life to compete for work. Get a clue Portland.
10
Rent control has done marvels for keeping rents reasonable in SF, LA and NYC.
11
JTR, Rent control worked great for SF, LA, NYC. They ended up sending all their couldabeens to Portland.
12
Portland State University ought to be moved to Jantzen Beach, so that the Campus can become a site for thoughtfully designed, affordable housing for Syrians.
13
Go away, OP. Haven't you done enough damage already? A once unique city reduced to another self-same yuppy theme park.

Things change, yes. They didn't have to change like this, though. It's not progress. It's destruction.

Too bad we don't value our history and heritage in architecture like Europeans. Even after two world wars they still managed to maintain their cultures and architectural aesthetic, by rebuilding and renovating without tearing down every single building that stands in the way of "progress". Sure, you'll see new construction here and there, or modern monstrosities from a bygone era (Brutalist architecture anyone) but their housing projects look better than some of our most expensive condos. Go back to California/New York, we'd rather have illegal Mexicans and Syrian refugees than your bullshit capitalism that runs roughshod over our states history.

And PandaPDX, your "Old Economy Steve" schtick is so old, transplants want to tear it down! Most of us have college degrees, and the debt that comes with them. Most people are wise to the fact that family money and personal connections are much more important than working hard and getting a solid education. And having kids? Hardly! Can't afford those grubby little money suckers! So while you sit on that pile of cash you earned in some other state, most of us chose to try to stay close to family in the only place we have ever called home. Get over yourself and shut the fuck up!

Pollo - I'm a Transplant from Oakland. You know where Oakland is right? I bought a 1927 "fixer" to restore. I wanted to live by my family too, but I got priced out, so instead of bitching for the rest of my life I found happiness somewhere else. No handouts from parents, hard work and saving money. No, I don't sit on a pile of cash. I'm the first college graduate in my family. I worked hard (like many others) and saved. Portland has major entitlement issues and you all need to check your privilege

Because Oakland is so horrible these days? The only place artists and working class people can (hardly) afford to live in the Bay Area? You still made your money in California. Your type was old and tired in the 80's when the first round of California transplants started seeing green up North, but at least they didn't tear everything down. I have bought a house here (in a burb that really isn't, as it is that same age as Portland) and do have a degree. But I know I am not in the majority, and don't pretend that capitalism and bullshit fake progress can fix our maligned system. My house was built in 1948, and though it is small compared to the monstrosities your brethren from CA seem to prefer, I will never tear it down. It has character and was built in a way that was meant to last, out of real wood. Not in the rain, out of particle board, or with a goal of maximum profit. I know that may be difficult to understand, as I assume your "fixer" was or will be sold so you can better rest on your laurels later in life. I hope to die of old age in mine. I'm not the first college graduate in my family, but I will be the first college graduate to make less then the previous generation. Glad you got to benefit from the amazing university system in California! I'm sorry you got priced out, maybe Mommy and Daddy can help you move back. Where you belong.

"...I will be the first college graduate to make less then the previous generation."

Pollo, that is exactly what that putz Panda will never understand. I really loved the "Economy Steve" reference as well. Panda's generation just doesn't, or doesn't want to, understand/accept that there is far less opportunity available to the generations following his own. People are working far harder for less reward anymore. The opportunities to save and make a return on investments have shrunk dramatically since good ol' Panda was pulling himself by his bootstraps and making something of himself (completely independent of anyone's assistance of course).

That boob Panda hasn't experienced a similar cost of living increase since the oil crisis under Carter, and that was short-lived. Market corrections of all varieties are far more severe in today's day and age and recoveries are far slower as well. But morons like him never want to cop to these facts. They simply want to pat themselves on the back for the success achieved in a completely different economic environment than today's workforce faces. I wouldn't expect their elitist attitudes to change any time soon given that they're nice and comfortable in their circumstances that can't be readily/easily recreated in the world we live in today.

Agreed, TrayvonNorris. Well said.
