I agree that it's #3, but Aurelius has a point that the Elephant People won't be convinced by your logic; it's not about logic. You see words and conversation as a way to do two things: 1.) Convey information; and 2.) Get someone to act (or react) in a certain way. The EPs only use words to do the second part; whip up fervor, intimidate, identify the enemy, dog-whistle, etc.
