People do get killed for being pests. You need to knuckle up on your cosmology. It happens every day. Thanks for saving the mouse. Now try voting locally so you can actually save human lives.

A typical American attitude: We don't have many rodent-borne diseases in our country BECAUSE we've actively tried to eradicate them in the past, we therefore have the luxury to see the "cuteness" in these pests. I bet if someone in your family had died from a rodent-borne disease you'd be singing a different tune.

Rats are non-native (they actually compete with "cute" native animals), disease carriers, they destroy a large amount of our food supply and cause structural damage (fires, flooding, contamination). There are no positives to having a rodent infestation... unless you count the hippy-dippy "cuteness" factor.

Ok so explain how rats "destroy a large portion of our food supply, and cause floods and fires". Pretty sure humans have that stuff covered. Don't get me wrong, rats are gross. But if you are blaming them for the plague of humanity you are living in the 1600s.

Aurelius: Instead of posting your uninformed comment, you should have done your due diligence by performing a cursory online search regarding rodents and human food supplies. Guess I gotta hold your hand and teach you how the internet works:

"Each year, rats destroy approximately 20% of all the agricultural products in the world." - U.S. Fish and Wildlife

"Statisticians estimate that rats destroy 20 percent of the world's food supply every year" - Urban Integrated Pest Management

"Rats destroy an estimated 1/3 of the world's food supply each year" - Robert Sullivan, author of "Rats". (A great read, by the way... highly recommended!)

"Initial estimates by the United Nations in 1982 reported that rats destroyed > 42 million tons of food worldwide that was worth $30 billion dollars." - University of South Florida

"Four commensal species of rat together destroy about one-fifth of the world's food harvest each year." -Science Encyclopedia

"Rats destroy an estimated 20 to 30 percent of the world’s food supply every year—by feeding on it or contaminating it." - Dr. Bobby Corrigan, one of the nation’s most renowned rodentologists.

P.S. When I say cause flooding (I didn't say floods... your lack of reading comprehension is astounding) and fires, I'm referring to the fact that once rodents gain access to a home or building, they can chew on electrical wiring (causing fires) and pipes or hoses (causing flooding).

You can look up these facts yourself, something you should have done before commenting.
