The fish don't just jump in the boat, homey, put the flowers down and go catch em.

Bro. Don't be sorry for any of that. Be who you are. You may just be in the wrong area for what you are looking for. PDX is not a town that likes 'maleness' or 'yang' energy. Just expressing a moderatly conservative view, or actually being a guy - (eye-contact asking out of a girl), and you can viewed as commiting a "serious crime" in this town. Reflect on this - you will find much nicer women who are open minded, outside of Multnomah Co. The fact is, Mult. Co. is so over-imbalanced toward neo-liberalism, your choices are VERY limited. Ironically, Multnomah Co is less open-minded, less flexibile, less variety, becasue of its over-skewed liberal demographic. I have lived here for 18 years - Trust me on this. I took this advice from another older dude, and he was spot on. Since January, I have beene having much more fun on dates and activities with no 'head games' or 'snarkiness' or 'who's cooler' vibe allowed. It just never comes up! More down to earth, less 'city-smart' less 'news educated'. Simply put - outside of Portland, these womem make for more fun, better dining, better dancers, and much better make-out sessions later! And even better, there is a more adult closure to the eves usually - "Yeah, I want to see you again." or a "This was nice, but it isn't quite working for me." Both adult, gentle ways of gauging person interest in one another - no getting lost in text, emails, and misunderstanding. What have you got to lose? Good Luck on better hunting grounds!

David Wong summed it up pretty well:

"I read several dozen stories a year from miserable, lonely guys who insist that women won't come near them despite the fact that they are just the nicest guys in the world.

'What, so you're saying that I can't get girls like that unless I have a nice job and make lots of money?'

I'm asking what do you offer? Are you smart? Funny? Interesting? Talented? Ambitious? Creative? OK, now what do you do to demonstrate those attributes to the world? Don't say that you're a nice guy -- that's the bare minimum. Pretty girls have guys being nice to them 36 times a day.

'Well, I'm not sexist or racist or greedy or shallow or abusive! Not like those other douchebags!'

I'm sorry, I know that this is hard to hear, but if all you can do is list a bunch of faults you don't have, then back the fuck away.

Don't complain about how girls fall for jerks; they fall for those jerks because those jerks have other things they can offer. 'But I'm a great listener!' Are you? Because you're willing to sit quietly in exchange for the chance to be in the proximity of a pretty girl (and spend every second imagining how soft her skin must be)? Well guess what, there's another guy in her life who also knows how to do that, and he can play the guitar. Saying that you're a nice guy is like a restaurant whose only selling point is that the food doesn't make you sick. You're like a new movie whose title is This Movie Is in English, and its tagline is 'The actors are clearly visible.'"

Once I dropped the "Nice guy" act, and it was an act as I always expected something in return, my luck with women went way up. Learn to first be comfortable with who you really are, then be comfortable putting that guy out there.

If there's one thing the ladies are looking for in a man, it's being passive aggressive! Surprised you're not drowning in poon here, I/A.

You do realize that the whole "I'm such a nice guy but women only want assholes" pose is a cliche', right? People have been making fun of that for years. It's so passive-aggressive and always comes off as creepy. I'm sorry, but I thought you should know.
8
You're asking women to lower their standards, but maybe it's you who needs to lower your standards.
9
Are you the guy looking for a job too?
10
Yeah, It's probably every woman in Portland's fault. Much more likely that there is something wrong with every woman, and not something about you, one person.

Also, in my experience, guys who claim to be "nice guys" are usually anything but.

Anon you sound like a nice guy but women dont want nice but rather an asshole. Start with going to college hone your argument skills then become a cassic cynic and wear carnigans and profess your love for bukowski's poems. Women seem to love men that are so full shit.

Develop a dr house type of persona and the pussy will be attracted to you like moths are to a flame ;)

13
Yeah, but can you tank?
14
If you mean fail then yes but done right along with winning arguments against an optimist (becoming the hero) and proclaim that everything sucks and use sarcasm at inappropriate times and order ridiculously obscure food items that no one has heard of and call the waiter an idiot for not having it.

grow a beard IA. Worked for me.

Perhaps you are that guy who looks right past the nice girl to the perfect size two twenty-one year-old beauty. Open your eyes kiddo, there's plenty of great women out there. Widen your horizons by joining a meet-up, taking a class, going to church or just truly being interested in what someone has to say.

men still don't know what real women want. women know that too many men want, eye-candy, eye-candy, eye-candy and think they can get her for money, money and mo' money. stop caring so much about what a woman looks like on the outside and go for one that has it happening on the inside. she's the one looking for trust, honesty and respect. stop getting caught up with how women look instead of finding out who they really are. young and perky at 22 usually ends up being old and floppy at 52. find a woman that loves others as much as she loves herself. find a woman that believes everyone is equal and deserving of love and care. she will be yours for a lifetime. just make sure you are worthy of her. and for god's sake find a woman and not a girl.
