As readers should already know, Adam Arnold's F/W 2010 collection debuts this evening (my Q&A preview with him is here), but his aren't the only designs that will be on display in the looks tonight: Coco Cárdenas is a line of jewelry and handbags designed by Coco Urhausen Martinez. Originally from the area, Martinez grew up alternating between the Pacific Northwest and Mexico, and recently moved back to Portland after about five years in New York, where she collaborated extensively with Heatherette on the runway and in editorials. Now that she's back in the Portland scene, her work will accompany Arnold's new collection in the first high-profile opportunity to acquiant/re-acquaint yourself with a designer who draws from "her family’s heritage of versatile Mexican Circus performers including: equestrians, acrobats, jugglers, and tightrope walkers... Coco skillfully combines and expresses their essence of adventure and discipline with her vast appreciation and knowledge of modern designs and fashion." Here's a sampling of her recent work—I'm very excited to discover what ends up on the runway tonight!
