The ranks of Portland apparel designers continue to swell, in part under the guidance of new programs like Portland Sewing's Fashion Forward, which started this past summer and is officially launching participants—who were hand selected for an intensive covering everything from "patterning, prototyping, sampling, and marketing"—at a fashion show on April 29. Eight new designers in total will be launched, with both womenswear and menswear represented. Not a bad number: eight was the maximum number of students admitted to the program, and seeing as the frequency of fashion shows in town seems to be on the rise again (ahem, need I mention the Mercury eighth annual Spring show is on May 12), the more fresh blood, the better.
