So I haven't been to OMSI since I was like 11, and I've certainly never thought of them in the context of local fashion, but it turns out that's exactly what's gonna be featured at this month's OMSI After Dark, on Wednesday, the 29th. Titled "Chic Geeks: Fashion, Music and the Science of Style," this is how the event is described on the website:

PDX-come and flaunt your thick-framed glasses and peg-legged little hipster jeans! See what curious forms a sub woofer can coax from Oobleck, get a Henna tattoo, and make a duct tape wallet. Check out the future of fashion with local designers and go old-school with music on the Gameboy with chiptunes.

Okay so that makes it sound kinda corny and if I had no other information (the webpage doesn't say much more) I'd probably think this is gonna be really lame and skip it, but it turns out the event is going to feature some of Portland's coolest emerging designers like Nancy L Simon of Get Sushi Designs, Cassie Ridgeway of Mag-Big in collaboration with Kelli Kotlar, and recent AI graduate Ijeoma Okenwa, who's senior collection titled "Igbo Kwenu," garnered a lot of positive buzz at the school's latest fashion show (full disclosure: I worked on the production of that show and got to know Ijeoma's collection intimately—I still sometimes see it in my dreams), as well as Allison Ditson of Allihalla, and Aniela Parys.

The doors will open at 7, and Act 1, which will feature OSU fashion students will start and 7:30, with the main event starting at 8:30. There will also be live music by Blue Skies for Black Hearts and Lost Lander. Tickets are $15 for non-members and $9 for members, and like everything fun this event is for ages 21+ (who doesn't want to get drunk at OMSI?).
