Winn Perry, the lauded menswear boutique that originally shuttered its doors in 2011, recently reopened at a new location next to Jackpot Records downtown. Here at MOD, we've been covering their relaunch since it was first announced, having previously mentioned it here, here and here, but I just recently got a chance to stop by the new digs for a proper visit. The store, which in its previous incarnation specialized in fine suiting and formal wear, has taken a more casual but still dapper turn, with clothing, accessories, and lifestyle items that fit a sort of polished-outdoorsy aesthetic.
One element that has carried over with the reboot is the strong emphasis on footwear, particularly by Alden, a New England shoe company that specializes in custom boots, and has created special edition styles specifically for the store. The apparel selection is fairly minimal but focused, consisting of Levi's Vintage jeans and special edition Individualized shirts, along with their own private label, which is manufactured in Massachusetts by the New England Shirt Company. There is a good assortment of lifestyle items, ranging from shot glasses to pocket knives, and, in keeping with retail trends, a strong selection of apothecary items, with grooming staples including Propaso shaving creams and Musco soaps and fragrances.
The local menswear landscape has certainly improved since 2011, with noteworthy retailers opening each year, but there is definitely room for more growth. Winn Perry still stands out as a well rounded, thoughtfully curated boutique, and I think their focus on domestically produced, limited edition pieces will always be welcome around here. Check out some of the goods.
