When it comes to denim, I always assumed I knew enough to get by. Distressed, stonewashed, waxed, etc. Yeah, cool. If the jeans fit, I'm happy. Then I read this blurb about the special edition denim from Self Edge launching this weekend...
"We've come together with Iron Heart to have a new 20oz unsanforized loomstate left hand twill denim produced with gray weft (fill) yarns."
...and my head exploded. So let's break it down:
Sanforization: "A method of stretching, shrinking and fixing the woven cloth in both length and width before cutting and producing, to reduce the shrinkage which would otherwise occur after washing." 1
This denim skips that process. Expect a little shrinkage, but the way the fabric ages over time will be worth the trouble.
Loomstate: "Denim made without processing of any kind. Unsanforized, un-singed, uncalendered, and unmercerised." 2
In other words, this shit is pure.
Iron Heart produced two jean styles (a slim tapered cut and a straight leg jean) and one jacket model. The left hand twill of the denim gives the fabric a unique feel and the gray weft yarns create an interesting medium indigo shade. This collection is a limited run so once they're gone, you're out of luck. The jeans and jacket are available starting this tomorrow at noon, or 9 am PST online at www.selfedge.com.
