If you missed the debut of Engaged: A Bridal Runway Event put on by Siren Nation, Cassie Ridgway, and Elizabeth Mollo Productions, then maybe you're not getting married? I've been married for seven years now (nope, not feeling the itch, still happy and in love). But I still adore everything about weddings: seeing people get hitched, all the crying, the cute little ring bearer and flower girls, wedding gowns, of course, and yes, LOVE! So I was more than happy to cover this event at the Doug Fir, where I've never actually been before. (Ahem, Portland born and raised right here—don't judge!) I also experienced my first-ever front-row reserved seat. (I had one at Portland Fashion Week but it was snagged). As a night of firsts for many, and in the spirit of a bridal show, it's also important to mention that we were all celebrating the fact that Judge Michael McShane made a righteous decision to finally declare Oregon's ban against gay marriage as unconstitutional and make that shit right! Happy times for all!

First off, the stage was adorned with giant dream catchers that were certainly dreamy with long ribbons of sparkly sequins, feathers, and fur made by Rachael Rice.

The room was pretty full of women and men, who were either there to view the stylish suits or just be with their fiancee's—either way, ladies, keepers! It was a short runway show, but lively and pleasant, complete with a "very happy to be there" and involved DJ Gregarious. Each designer was introduced by First Lady Nancy Hales, which was a nice way to keep the audience informed and... engaged. The suits by Bad Wolf Clothier and Duchess Clothier were nothing short of breathtaking. The details were impeccably executed with fine fabrics and the fitting was superb, as were the models (damn), including Karen Micheals, holla!

Sunjin Lee opened the show, and her second look was the perfect way to start it with a lace blouse tucked into an ivory leather ankle-length high-waisted circle skirt. I usually despise faux flowers, but they were flowing from a vintage purse that model Favour carried with charm, and the look wouldn't have been as lovely without them.
Bad Wolf Clothier's models accompanied vintage gowns from Eve in Eden. ElizaBeth Rohloff showed off her head pieces on models wearing minimalist garments and no shoes.

Sonia Kasparian of Urchin ReDesign wowed the crowd with her looks. We've watched her over the years take pieces from other gowns to create new ones and it's always interesting and unique. This was definitely my favorite collection of hers, she has certainly mastered the art of making wedding gowns by hand out of recycled materials. Her collection showcased a range of styles that included a beaded bodice cascading down into a full tulle skirt, an art deco dress with a cowl-draped neckline in the back, and a hand-dyed ombre lustrous lace gown that had an asymmetrical drape. It was awe inspiring.

The only complaint I had, along with other attendees, was that we wanted more! The producers promise that the next installment of Engaged will have just that, and although it was short, it didn't lack in inspiration for the brides and grooms to be. The lineup was a well-rounded showcase that included gowns, suits, head pieces, and lingerie, so there's no complaint about poor planning.
