The Tillamook burns (1933, 1939, 1945, and 1951) erased 752,000 acres. When I was a boy scout in the early 1960s, a frequent scout activity was to plant Douglas Fir seedling in the area. The burn area, as far as I can tell, is now reforested, but perhaps not with the mix of species it had before the fires.
We should do the same with the Eagle Creek area, perhaps being more careful this time with the mix.
