There is a woman living on Ninth Street in the lower end of the city, whom the neighbors of that section threaten to have locked up if she does not cease her abuse of the little children left to her care by a dead father. Sunday evening last, she beat one of them in so shocking a manner that the neighbors went to the police and ordered her arrested. This woman, we understand, came into possession of a considerable amount of money through the death of her husband, and she should see to it that the little ones do not suffer, instead of treating them in so inhuman a manner. It has been a frequent occurrence of late to hear the little ones scream, "Oh, mamma, please don't whip me 'till I bleed!" and unless better treatment is promised on her part, they should be taken away from her and placed among kind people.
