Stretch Driver in Spat with Scooter Rider

Sounds like maybe we need regulation of taxis, town cars, hotels, bellhops and limos. What do you think Mrs. Volm?

Ahhh! Poetic Justice for Mary. In January 2004 Mary was the voice of PDOT telling me they just couldn't clean up the hazardous gravel left in the bike lanes after the storm any faster. Now she knows firsthand how it feels to be the victim of this type of assault.

Totally randy! Spokespersons doing their jobs are such bitches! They totally deserve to be assaulted on the street for communicating decisions of other people.

Ok, so lets take a look at this here. You have a small scooter and a large limousine.

It amazes me how people on bikes and scooters think they own the road in Portland and the rest of us are infringing on their territory. Would Mary have responded differently if the guy was driving a regular car or perhaps an SUV?

I think the Portland PD needs to start taking a look at traffic downtown and realizing that if we are all going to share the road then we all should have the same rules enforced...

1) where are the white lights on the front, and red lights on the rear of a bike at night? why do bicyclists think traffic lights don't apply to them? If traffic is slowed/stopped at an intersection there probably is a reason and when you morons come zooming up on the right side and I start to make my turn (because I have the green light) and then you get mad at me because I cut you off? It is your responsibility to share the road too folks...pay more attention to the rules = less bike / vehicle accidents.

2) why should traffic come to a stand still on a busy street while a gal that weighs 90 pounds tries to peddle two football line backers up a hill in a pedi cab (and we have to sit through two lights because she can't get the job done)

3) scooters- hey thanks for saving the environment and all, but get real. 8000# limo isn't gonna stop on a dime and when we have to back up out of an intersection (see pedi cab comment above) to avoid a ticket, you shouldn't be riding up our back bumpers and getting upset about it.

I am not defending the actions of the limo driver. In fact, if one of my chauffeurs responded in that way I would probably fire him. But I can tell you that the side of a limousine DOES DENT VERY EASY so it is possible for a 54 year old women who is obviously ticked off to kick or hit that side panel and make a dent.

People need to quit being so damn stupid and pay more attention to the rules of the road. The limousines have every right to be there just like bikes, cars, pedestrians, and every other person. And just because the city doesn't regulate limousines doesn't mean we are bad people. Grow up Matt and find another story that is newsworthy.

Wow! What a story! The big problem with the story is that it is all about what Mary Volm "alleges." In fact, Mary Volm got caught with her hand and her foot in the cookie jar. It's really a shame when a so-called "News"paper bases a story what a single city employee "alleges" and what a "witness" thought was taking place.

The truth of the matter is, that when Mr. Johnson's limo began to back up (it was not blocking the intersection, but had crossed the crosswalk), Ms. Volm's moped was next to, and not behind, the limo. At that point Ms. Volm began pounding on one of the back windows of the limo. When Mr. Johnson went back to see what was going on, Ms. Volm said something to the effect, "You're one of those Town Car drivers, aren't you? I'm going to see to it that you never drive in Portland again".

I'm sure Mr. Johnson was just a little ticked at someone pounding on the window of his vehicle, so I'm not surprised that Ms. Volm got yelled at. Now, what was that headline about "Limo Rage?" Perhaps it might have been more correctly worded "Moped Rage," or City Employee Rage." Think about it. How might you have responded?

Mr. Johnson did push Ms. Volm, on her moped, ahead in the adjoining lane, and then went back to his limo. When the light turned green, he pulled forward, waiting for oncoming traffic to pass, before making a left turn. At that point he checked his passenger-side rear view mirror, and was astonished to see Ms. Volm, on foot, run up to his limo and violently kick the right-rear area of the limo.

Mr. Johnson then jumped out of his vehicle and yelled at Ms. Volm that he was placing her under citizen's arrest, which is his right under the circumstances. Ms Volm then extended her arm toward Mr. Johnson, Mr. Johnson took hold of her wrist, and Ms. Volm conveniently just sat down, as though she had been pushed down. He also yelled, "If you kick my vehicle again, I'll punch you in the nose."

It appears the Portland Police quickly determined that a city employee, such as Ms. Volm, could hardly be guilty of anything. That must mean that the limo driver is guilty of something. (never mind his attempt to inform them that he was in the process of making a citizen's arrest, and their obligation to process that)

After this little fiasco was over, Mr. Johnson was charged by the DA with menacing, harassment, and disorderly conduct (because his vehicle was in the intersection, and the Police officers would not allow him to move it).

In the end however, justice did prevail. On March 31, 2009, a jury unanimously found Mr. Johnson to be innocent on all three charges. As a diligent investigator discovered, there were other witnesses to the events who completely refuted Ms. Volm's testimony about the incident.

So, now we have Ms. Volm, the Portland Police Bureau, and the Portland DA's office who were all derelict in their duties. Ms. Volm filed a false Police report, trying to cover up her own outrageous behavior. The Portland police officers failed to take action on Mr. Johnson's citizen's arrest request. The Portland DA's office likewise failed to act on the citizen's arrest request, and proceeded to bring a charge against Mr. Johnson just because a city employee was "allegedly victimized."

Even though a jury found Mr. Johnson to be innocent on all three charges, there remains a yet-to-be-determined justice for all that goes along with any accusation. How does a wrongfully-accused person regain their reputation, their lost time and expenses to defend themselves, and their loss of business over a period of time? Everyone hears about the charges, but almost no one hears that the charges were untrue. Ask anyone who is charged with, and found innocent of any crime. They are going to live a changed life simply because of the charges themselves.

Hopefully, Ms. Volm, the Portland police, and the Portland DA's office will be made to suffer some of the consequences of their own criminal actions!!!

Having been the victim of Mary Volm's penchant for profanity and personal insults, while on Face Book, I'm sorry to say, I wouldn't believe a word she says. I believe the Limo driver. Just because the woman is 54 years old, does not mean she's elderly with one foot in the grave.

She has learned how to manipulate and get away with aggression to others, profanity and insults, while then playing the victim. She is a tedious person and a bore. Check out her Face Book profile pic. Looks like she's trying out for the new trend of older female porn stars. Mouth hanging open, comical attempt at seductiveness.

I took her off my friends list two weeks ago, because her constant complaining and whining made me sick. Its sad she's playing little bo peep and getting people arrested, while she puts others in danger with her careless Scooter driving.

Sincerely, Tarese!

After my husband reprimanded her for her use of profanity and her attack on me, she had some guy contact my husband through FB and my husband got this message, from the guy, saying that he and Mary are high profile people and that if he continued to contact her, we would not "last" in "this community." A community in which my husband has lived for over 25 years and I have lived my entire life. I'm over 40. I had to laugh. Who are they the mafioso?

Apparently, Ms. Volm thinks she's pretty important, but it seems clear to my husband and myself that she is simply unbalanced, power hungry and disturbed. The fact that she uses profanity so freely on FB makes me feel she could easily be violent. I believe the Limo driver.

The sooner she is not any kind of "city commissioner" the better. I shudder to think of people like her in positions of ANY kind of power...though clearly she's a bottom feeder.
