The word "ambitious" in "ambitious map of multi-use paths, cycle tracks, and bicycle boulevards" shouldn't be there. Timid would be a better word.
7% of the transportation happens for 1% of the [city] budget, (and approximately 0.1% of the total dollars spend on transportation city wide.) We aren't asking for a lot of money, we are actually asking for less than what would be fair. "Less than fair" is not in any way "ambitious."
$30 million a year would make a HUGE difference over at Portland Public Schools, improving the quality of education for a LOT of students. Will $30 million worth of bike paths be as useful? I doubt it. This is just another pretty PR plan from city hall, up there with the aerial tram, major league soccer, and the new Rose Quarter proposal.
