State Aims to Crack Down on "Problem Bars"

If Cabaret club is such a cronic problem, why doesn't Randy & his Hit Squad get ontop of this?

God damn it...what this town needs is a Problem Establishment Free Zone.

I think it would really round out the city's character and fit nicely with the Gun Free Zone, the Drug Free Zone (coming back to an Old Town near you), the Prostitution Free Zone, the Malt Liquor/Tall Boy Free Zone, and the No Sit/Lie Free Zone.

I'm all for this bill if it includes a citizen review of the OLCC, which more than one bartender has told me has a habit of coming in and shaking down bar owners for cash. I don't think either PDX or Oregon is full of only clean, kind, up and up bars but I also think that neither PDx nor the OLCC has proven themselves to be great at using power without oversight. After all, if we can shut down a bar for having several incidents we should be able to do the same with an officer.

Omigod! Tina Kotek, Jackie Dingenfelder: Why close innocent venues and deny people freedom of association because of the misdeeds of a few? If people are stealing, assaulting and fighting in the bar, and dealing crack in the can, then arrest the malefactors and charge the thieves with theft, the assailants with assault and battery, the fighters with disturbing the peace and the crack dealers with cracker-jackery. We got problems? Address them directly. Don't give the cops a free hand to deny people their lawful pleasures. Enough of this passive-aggressive lawmaking!

So long as Kotek and Dingenfelder only seem interested in going after the "problem" bars that have a largely African-American clientele such as the 720 Room and the 915, what's the big deal?
I mean, there aren't enough milktoast fern bars in this town yet.

huh huh...you said Kotek and Dingenfelder...huh huh huh

The only thing that is gonna be non-existent by cancelling Cabaret's LL is the club itself eventually. The goons that cause the problems can just get drunk or high right on the next block(has the city forgotten how many other clubs are right in the vicinity of Cab?) and then come to Cab. The problem people will still be around no matter what OLCC does, so that tells me that the City is acting on some covert beef with Cab.

Errr red Rick !!!!! BrrrrrrrffFFF ! [phweet].

Seriously, I'll never understand why the city and OLCC doesn't understand that closing down bars does nothing to fix the problem...... it only moves the problem to another bar. When they closed down 915, the Greek Cuisine or 720 problems magically didn't disappear, they just got moved to another bar.

When it's time to party, we will always party hard.
