Business Owners Risk Losing WiFi Because of Pirating Patrons

The people pirating are mainly using the .torrent protocol which can be blocked at the router. This aint rocket surgery. Otherwise people can learn Tor or VPN and tell telecoms to fuck off

This is just another scheme make information & media available to only people with the means to access it. I can see how cafe owners are victims in this "crime" but government agencies could devote their resources to something much more worthwhile like, oh I dunno...infrastructure, highways, building a functional railway system. Oh wait, I forgot, the government is in the pocket of those telecom companies.

@Graham - Running torrents through Tor is highly discouraged. Easier option: find a torrent that supports SSL encryption. Secure Socket Layer prevents Comcast from seeing what you're downloading by encrypting your connection. Or, a VPN would work too, but that will cost money, it’s redundant to SSL, and unless you’re paying a couple hundred a year, you’re connection will be significantly slower. In a couple years just about every torrent will support SSL, in the meantime, look out for torrents that say "Secure Download" on your tracker and stay current with your torrent client apps (i.e. install those goddamn Vuze updates). “Secure Download” works on many of the largest tracker sites, use this. Don’t be afraid.

At peak times, 1/3rd of the data flowing on the internet is torrents. You have nothing to worry about. I'd bet there's an equal number of internet porn watchers as there is torrent users, so you're a needle in a haystack. Think about: who do you know that doesn’t use torrents? And, why haven’t you taught them how?

Read the Crypto Anarchist Manifesto. It explains why this is happening and what the reaction is. It was written in 1992, and we’re here, now. Cryptology is the zeitgeist of the time:

Next, ask yourself: What is a bitcoin? And, can I really buy marijuana with it?

Please wait...
