State Wildlife Workers Want Taxpayers to Chip in for Cat Antics

So ODFW's stance is that no one in Portland has a fishing or hunting license? Otherwise I don't see how people in Portland are getting their services "for free".

Get to the root of the problem... it's ODFW

Donā€™t over think this peopleā€¦. We have too many predators because they have nothing killing them.

The problem with predatory animals in town (Bears and Cougars) has to do more with the numbers of them rather than human population encroachment. They donā€™t ā€˜wantā€™ to be around us. The problem here is that the numbers were down when people (hunters) were able to effectively manage the populations. Nowā€¦ the populations are up and THEY ARE HUNGRY; we are at a point where, in the wild, there are more predators then their food supply can support so they come around people and kill dogs, cats or get into dumpsters. When ODFW took away the ability to use bait or dogs to hunt predators, they took away to ability to effectively hunt them. We need to get ODFW to remove the restrictions on baiting predators (even if itā€™s only for archery) and the numbers will again go to a reasonable level. Now, having said that, I know that there is a cycle and as the food becomes scarce, the numbers of predators will go down (they starve to death). As we've seen around the world with people, that is an ugly way to die. Why shouldnā€™t we just let the animals die of starvation? We let people die from it all the time.

Another problem is the numbers of hunters is reducing as kids prefer playing games indoors to playing in the woods. That is a sad fact. And the ignorant anti-hunting terrorists try to push their agenda on others.

I know that this isn't the politically correct thing to say but you are going to see the same population issue happen with wolves. The difference here is that there is no effective way to hunt wolves. So curbing that population isn't going to be easy. If you see a wolf, there are too many of them because wolves are heard and not seen. They eat everything. When the food supply in the wilderness gets low, they will take whatever they can.... cows, horses, humans... anything. The wolf lovers say they donā€™t kill peopleā€¦ well, where there have been food shortages for them, they have taken people. Also, they donā€™t just kill to eat; they kill because they love to the sport.

Isnā€™t it interesting; people see predators killing everything as ok but if I kill something to eat, people get all irate. How hypocritical!!!

Don't give ODFW money! They will waste it. Train and staff OSP instead. ODFW ALWAYS KILLS captured cougars, ALWAYS.

Revelation 6:8 (King James Version)

8 And I looked , and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.

When was the last time a human was even slightly harmed by a wild cougar in the state of oregon? As far as the internet knows- NEVER.

So if these fuckers want to do nothing- That's fine. I will pay for that. And you cougar shriekers out there. Don't let your little poodle run around unwatched, k?

I think I remember that all of this was predicted when some vegans got together to ban hunting cougars with dogs.

Hi. That headline is really really really dumb because all government programs are always funded by taxpayers. I think you should change it because it's really an embarrassment.

The black bears are here for the garbage, not the pets. How have we been "handling" coyotes, which aren't mentioned in this article?

Cougars will stalk and kill a child, or an adult. Different animal, different behavior.
