I think its sad that we as a society shun these people who through their addictions are crying out for nothing more than a little help. I weep for the future of our country.

I am a recovering drug addict. I had 4 years clean on 3-1-06 thanks to hooper detox they saved my life. I owe a great debt to the staff at hooper for giving me a chance to get clean and to make a choice weather or not to use. They were my first step on my journey to recovery and a new life. It is unfortunate that some of the clients in the sobering station were treated rudely but overall I believe in the miracle of hooper it has helped me and countless friends and family to recover from alcoholism and drug addiction.

I am a professional. I was taken to Hooper over the week-end for being intoxicated in public. Most of the staff were friendly....until the evening/night shift change. At that time, a very rude and abusive overweignt man came in, along with an African American female with spiral curls. They were both unbelievably ill behaved! I would love to complain, but who will take "a drunk" seriously?

Hooper needs specific evidence-based criteria to discharge someone rather than the "you'll stay here until I decide you can leave" sentiment that was voiced more than once. Also, if a spouse or adult family member is willing to come and pick you up and take responsibility for your well-being, why are people kept there under the pretense of being "unable to care for" themself.

I did experience a cell-mate taken to the solitary area for punishment for a very mild humerous event.

I may have been unable to care for myself, but the staff there are no more able to care for this population. I was no more sober when the powers that be decided I was well-behaved enough for a long enough period of time to call a family member to rescue me.

Please wait...
