It is also interesting that during this process both Admas and Leonard forget to mention Leonards own conflict of interest given that his own daughter has warrants out for her arrest here and in Washington State. (See for example the history in Clark County Case case #071023224 or Multnomah County Case#080444651)

What do Adams and Potter think about the fact that Randy has to call the cops to come arrest his kid if he finds out where she is? Or does Leonard know where his daughter is and is he not turning her in? Why doesn't anyone ever bring this up? How does Leonard's personal family experience influence his view of the police and the criminal justice system? What does Sizer think of this issue? Adams? Do they even know?

Oh, and for a little premptive response to Randy's inevitably temper tamtrum whenever anyone mentions this issue or gossips about it down at the city hall, please note that Randy Leonard has previously used his daughter as a political prop to show how in tune he is with the need for drug treatment. For instance, remember when he hosted a screening of the movie "Finding Normal" [ see http://portland.indymedia.org/en/2008/02/371723.shtml ] he was willing to refer to her experience as a way to explore a complex issue.

Lots of people have family members struggling with legal issues and drug addiction. But lots of people are not hoping to be in charge of the police response to such issues. Leonard's daughter deserves treatment and a fair opportunity to go through her court process, but the people of Portland need a police commissioner who can rationally handle the criminal matters in his own household before trying to muck around with the overall system.
