Re: “Wade McCollum

I can't wait to see One; The Musical! I never miss one of Wade's performances because he never fails to bring something extraordinary and special to anything he takes on. I've seen many of his performances multiple times because I rave to friends about something I've seen and then attend again with them. Wade is such a phenomenal actor that I'm expecting his musical to be unforgettable. Diann Koppen, Portland

Wow, something positive happening in the mall, who would have thought. Any information on how long the exhibit is happening?

As usual....only thinking in terms of self......its really the fact that not enough money is being made....sad but true.

Re: “Going Balls Out

It's kind of sad and maddening to me that you felt the need to reiterate the " destabilization of the 811 building".. 811 will miss Bwana, of course, but what about the rest of the thriving, awesome businesses inhabiting the building??? At least give us some positive shout outs and recognition. LAME!

Re: “Design Density

@sheps22 "Dont see continuous lines wrapping around abstract shapes as much as abstract shapes piercing continuous lines. Its hard to write about art sometimes."

I wasn't referring to piece pictured above. You'd know that if you read the description carefully: "[the] mural is drawn in neon green tape on a gallery wall." Its hard to read sometimes.

Re: “Design Density

Reminds me of Escher on lsd in a sorbet shop. Fun to gaze upon but hard to see. Love the colors. Dont see continuous lines wrapping around abstract shapes as much as abstract shapes piercing continuous lines. Its hard to write about art sometimes. Sometimes you have to do more than just walk past it. Sometimes you have to stare at it for hours or live with it to undestand it.Sometimes you will never understand it. A.T.Sheppard

Re: “Uncomfortable? There's an App for That.

I found this show terribly disappointing. Most of the works are on loan from the Eli and Edythe Broad Foundation, so it's all the latest and trendiest artists. If that's your thing, you'll love the show. Personally, I found it all very slick, commercial and shallow. Like a lot of contemporary work, it reflects the artists' and the art audience's interest in novelty and production values. I love the museum, but I'm not sure why they wanted to climb onto this particular bandwagon.

Re: “Art! Party!

damn.... are you for real thinking this shit is NEW?!
where have ya'll been hiding?!
the cross pollination of the visual arts and audio arts HAVE BEEN happening in portland for awhile now!! there's been tons of SOLID live painting/interactive shows around....but all of the media in this town wont cover it!!

Just this last thursday April.1st.
International graff Legend PEETA( www.peeta.net) just showed here with
Portand graff OG Aden Catalini @Backspace.
a heavily sponsored show(artmedia, imagekind, etc) supported it...
while there was amazing live painting, live music, dj's and even some gurella art happening.

i've personally done a ton of interactive live painting.... 20ft. walls etc..with numerous national, and international musicians.
and the list can go on!!!

just because the media decides to cover your "ART PARTY" doesnt mean youre doing anything
NEW OR ORIGINAL!
you know shits been rockin around PDX....and ya'll HAVE NOT been the ones rockin it!
stand inline and follow....
because you know who runs this shit.

Re: “Uncomfortable? There's an App for That.

I’d strongly recommend against purchasing the app for this exhibit. Six of the items on the app can be found for free online because they are taken directly out of programs from other institutions. The links provided below lead to the unedited source material and provide a much fuller understanding of the artists represented in the exhibit. These links expose the viewer to amazing resources that will enable them to further enrich their exploration of contemporary art. The content created specifically for the exhibit does little justice to the artists or their work, and reflects poorly on the Portland Art Museum, Portland State University, and Pacific Northwest College of Art. Overall, the App feels like an ill-conceived attempt at incorporating technology (giving undue respect to the novelty of an iPod tour) into an exhibit at an institution that struggles to be relevant.
