Re: “A World on Fire

The Honolulu Police Department was cited as a president in the Rodney King case.

A driver avoided rear-ending the car in front of him, by turning onto a side street on the property of Fort Derussy, where Air Force security guard tried to yank him out of his car window. The driver sped away, and the guard rolled quite a ways on the ground.

HPD caught up with the driver, arrested, booked, and released him. Then, after he got outside the police station, HPD along with the Air Force guard, kidnapped him, took him out back of the Waikiki Shell in Kapi'olani Park, beat him in the stomach, pissed all over him, and made him dunk for toads with his head submerged in the pond.

The guard got off and avoided a lawsuit against the US Military, by testifying against the Honolulu Police Officers, who got four to five years in Federal prison, for their misconduct, as well as for perjury, the lying fucking bastards.

Re: “Dear Diary

At least she just got tired of it and it didn't require a team of dirty nazis to put a stop to her scribble scrabbles.

Re: “Guys Like Georgie

Which is better? The book itself? Or the reviewer? Such a treat to enjoy both these delights this grey afternoon. Thank you Miss Pelletier, and thank you Portland Mercury. Another book going straight to the top of my reading list!

Re: “Westerosi History 101

I completed my 7th read-through of the series in preparation of this book and found it to be so dull that I stopped reading half-way through and just looked at the pictures. The art is gorgeous, but that is all this thing has to offer.

Re: “The Nothing Beat

I'm glad you called out the meaninglessness of the phrase "male confessional mode," Megan. It is truly a non-descriptor.

Re: “Bitches Get Stuff Done

Thanks for the recommendation. I found her and Fey's work on SNL often fell flat, too self aware and giggly at times, but post-SNL they have both blossomed into two of our better and sharper entertainers on their respective shows.

Re: “NASA, Moms, and Adult Diapers

Some jokes have become so cliche you can make a one liner out of the first sentence; "Take my wife." The highly decorated weapons expert, Captain Lisa Marie Nowak, was tried in the press on disinformation leaked by NASA. She wasn't chasing anyone. She was running from DoD spooks. STS-121 was the only mission ever launched by NASA against objections of the Chief Safety Officer. Coincidentally, the Space Shuttle Discovery, raced into Space, precisely 5 minutes after North Korea launched an ICBM at Havvai'i. Captain Nowak is a national hero, for what she accomplished on that 4th of July. Her only offense was in attempting to go public with what even she was surprised at that day.

Re: “Come Closer

That was not what was unique to the Language school at all. They were a group of theoretical, abstract poets who were fiercely against capitalism's commodification of language. They, in fact, wanted to destroy the idea of an accepted 'plain language' of any sort by exploring a voiceless, non-contextual, non-referential poetics that rejected a passive narrative coherency.

Re: “We're All Gonna Die

Either way, what do Portlanders have to lose?

Re: “We're All Gonna Die

It's not "Global Warming," it's 'Ocean Warming,' due to millions of undersea volcanoes currently erupting as always occurs at the early stages of ice ages, but now that all manufacturing has been outsourced to countries which have no pollution regulations and all retail has gone online, what would Portland have to lose?

One thing I've always wondered is what happened to the son that Alex had when he was 19, Timothee Chilton? I'm hoping this book covers that material.
