SUPER PLACE! Love everything, very nice digs! The Girl bartenders are the best in town and the music is the finest desert you can find anywhere, all ways the best!
Traditionally poor sound quality. Every single show that I have been to over the years has had terrible mix. I hope that they invest some money on resolving these issues so that they don't become the punchline of the joke "oh no, it's at the Wonder Ballroom." The building itself is nice, unfortunately the sound quality makes great bands unlistenable.
may14th...to see cold.
I am so excited for these guys. I really hope that they make some money. I am pretty sure that past record label woes stemming from multiple labels and their new contract with 11- seven music has got to be kinda screwed up. I have checked up on some of their recent youtube items, and there is so much bass that its ridiculous. I love cold. i have identity crisis like the next cat and when korn and limpbiskit got together with staind not long ago, I felt like THEY were left out. I hate that. Anyways, I wanna go. I skipped a few of their shows, but not like in the Blue October kind of way, more like, I am too big of a fan to want to be seen as a common nerd in the crowd amongst hardcore fans.sorry for that. Its hard to say that sticking around for this concert will be a blessing, and after skipping artwork over two years now, I effing love the way COld is displayed on the different kind of pain case, I feel bad and obligated to get one...a tattoo, you know. Anyways, just trying to avoid some music for the time being and do something fun.
I was looking to talk with someone at the Rialto about using the 'Jack London Bar' for an upcoming literary event. I discovered that it was only open during the event, not all day long. After talking to the General Manager Terry, I was given a date to showcase my 'Authors in Pubs' group. Every time I have been back, the staff has gone out of their way to be helpful. I recommend you stop by and get a calendar of all the events that go on there. I have been to three so far and they were well worth the trip downtown. It's one block from the transit mall, has both street parking and a Smart Park @ 4th & Alder. This is one place that has a lot going for it. Thanks to the staff for their hospitality. Don

The Krampus Nacht Ball 2011 was one of the LAMEST events I've ever paid to attend. At least crazy old shows at the XRay Cafe back in the day were only $3! In fact, I'd like my $20 back. Screamvina, Portland's pathetic, trailer-park Elvira rip-off was the worse MC I think I've ever seen in Portland; she's not dark, she's not spooky, she's pathetic, trashy, and way past her prime for those clothes she wears! I'm not sure what the Kramups 'dance' performance was all about, but talk about bastardizing another culture's traditions... all that costume making to just get up on stage and flop around like rag dolls? Basically, I paid $20 for piss poor entertainment and to watch people get really drunk... I hope the Bossanova is smart enough to not host this train wreck again. However, should Krampus Nacht return in 2012... make it only $5 to get in, because maybe it is worth $5 to laugh at this ridiculous fiasco!
Liked being closer to the stage, went to NORM! MacDonald on 11/5 Saturday's late show. Can't buy the two item minimum if they don't have the proper waitstaff to even bring you your damned drinks for nearly 30 min. We had to order our second drinks when the first ones finally arrived, just to make sure we'd even get them in time before the show was over. The show had me laughing hysterically with Norm and Kevin Farely performing, but Helium's idiocy is inexcusable. They'll have to do a lot better if they want me to spend any more $ or eat there. Any of the owners or moron should know that closing a bar at 11:45 is a bad business move, as is treating Portlanders like deatbeats in the first place...
As many people have said, the sound is broken here. It's glittery and EQ'ed flat but all smeared up & limited, with no detail and no transient dynamics. There's too many speakers and not enough acoustic treatment. For a band like The Hold Steady, where the lyrics would be pretty awesome if the vocals were legible, it's definitely the wrong venue.
If you do find yourself here and needing to hear the band, head up to the back balcony where there are a row of JBL Eon monitors playing the PA mix. They sound way better than the crap by the stage.
It's also a drag to get hit with a $2 "delivery fee" when you walk to the damn venue yourself and pay cash at the box office. If there's no escaping this bullshit tax, why isn't it advertised? Bait & switch is a pretty sleazy business practice.
BOO FROG loves playing Plan B and hanging out on the patio, you can smoke and talk, and avoid loud bands not worth losing your hearing over. The do have great Goth nights, Hardcore Punk, Art project bands, and Swampy Psychedelic Rock. Great Vibes and Booze!
queens of the stone age only played one hour and half come on boys i know the tickets were cheap but come on...2hours is just about right..... and the Roseland looks nice and all but they need a better sound system come on ..
wow! I headed up there to have a burger last monday. An artist named Aux.78 blew me away. he performs for only a handful of people every monday night. this has to be one of Portland's more original and creative musicians. the Red Room has him. I don't know how that managed that, but they did. great place to chill. the guy played music to the basketball game we were watching. talented dude.
Great place, changing every day,,,BridgeTown Comedy thought this was the best place to do their show,,,come on down and have Fish & Chips every Friday
