A picture of a woman who resembled a close friend of mine appeared on our college message board. It was her doppelganger and a man engaged in anal coitus. It wasn't her but she became aware of it and she wrote the site manager to remove the photo. That photo lead to some awkward circumstances but had she not handled the situation it could have been much worse for her.
We laud the Mercury truffling out corruption and mismanagement. And we don't intrude into how the Mercury spends the money gained from our eyeballs on its office parties. But perhaps the sin, if any, is that the story of Dexter Gordon was not shared with city staff. The easy version is see the film Round Midnight. It is the story of an African American leaving America for Europe to live without the heavy weight of American racism, and to be respected and honored there for their music. Some say the film was modeled after the life of other musicians. But Gordon playing the lead in the film is all in, himself having fled racism for Europe, struggled with substance problems, finally returning to the US for a few years of grateful performances, finally appreciated, before passing away at age 67. So yes our hipster lifestyles or self righteous water bill payer attitude may seem remote from the life of Gordon. But that doesn't mean we, or city employees, can't learn from it.
Go back to Tacoma.
Been a Portland resident 20 years but prefer Seattle. They had their ego stroke in the early 90's and have since recalibrated. Portland is in the throes of it's hipster circle jerk golden hour and it has gotten to the point of unbearable absurdity. I've never been in a city that thought so highly itself for no real reason other than the forced/contrived "weirdness" that's really not that weird when you go cities like SF, Austin, etc.
Seattle women are dead ass sexy too, which is really why I prefer it over Portland.

Who's got the bigger of cocks? Portland!
Ice prez and his mommy?
That championship belt is going to look nice around the waist of LA.
Bad move leaving the bench guys in that long.
What a 33333333333333333 by Mo!
OH! Old Man Mo Williams just broke someone's ankle with that cross over!
Whose able to correctly use apostrophe's? NOT PORTLAND
Who's water has fluoride?
Who thinks a city with jobs is a good thing?
I definitely wouldn't call seattle "weird" unless an overwealthy, undersexed latte/audi-driving populace, spooked by periodic shootouts and knife murders, defines weirdness.
Professionally happier but lifestyle-tepid Seattle
Looks like Kathleen will be home to see her friends and meet her fans at the Hollywood Theater this Friday night.
Hey Portland, OR! Friday night is the opening at The Hollywood Theater! I'll be doing a Q&A after and I think we'll have quests from the film in attendance. Please come and spread the word! xx Sini a

I'm sure throwing some money at it will fix this problem.
Or at least employ someone to claim they are doing something about it.
Hopefully everyone's in line at Helser's/Tin Shed/Salt and Straw and Pine State so I can have the new Bunk Bar all to myself.
I still do not understand why a bean-bag round could not be so different that it wouldn't load in a normal shotgun. Common sense should tell you that. Just a different color is not enough differentation.
As someone who only reads headlines, I am shocked and appalled that a city council member is requesting public money to traffic in the sex trade and equally appalled that the council as a whole is supporting this endeavor.
This is as bad as if not worse than the story last week about the woman being groped by the under aged county worker. http://www.portlandmercury.com/BlogtownPDX…

...or the whole street of Alberta. God forbid you want to eat something there between 2-4 pm.
Or the other few hours when places are open.
I've had to go to battle with Buzzfeed over my photographs from time to time. They are positively recalcitrant. My goal is to never click on Buzzfeed links, and I've been quite successful. I wish Buzzfeed could take their prodigious talent and work on some way to profit share with content creators.
Interesting conversation. I was all over Ten and subsequently Vs and Vitalogy when they came out. I agree with Ned's thoughts on Vitalogy. I didn't like it as much as the first two and I never bought another album of their's after that. I also never saw them live. Would liked to have seen the show here, but at $80 a piece it was not going to happen for me. What happened to the whole war against ticketmaster in the 90's. $80? They really sold out on that idea. Seems like $40-50 would be a lot more reasonable.
