Commenty Colin is my spirit animal.
Joe Biden said that O'bama be Irish, and Dick Cheney's wife says that Barry's Dick's cousin. Defacto president Soetoro's mother is Caucasian and her boy was raised to be white. As soon as he took office, Al-Qaeda called him "A House Negro" and "an dishonorable Black." This didn't buy the act. Barac has been CIA since he supposedly was an ungdergraduate student at Columbia while he was actually in Pakistan at a time when US citizens were not allowed in that country. Did he visit there on a Kenyan/British Colonial passport? He never became a naturalized citizen after his step dad made him Indonesian. No matter how youy view it, he is not illegible to be President of the United States. The Democrats and Republicans are two tails of a the same double headed coin. Benghazi is a bigger cover up than Watergate, Iran Contra, and Whitewater, combined.
Your choice is simple. Do you want to live or do you want to die? It really is that simple, and once you stop pretending it isn't, you can face your options honestly. The response is completely in your power and control.
If you decide you want to live, find something that works for you (e.g. AA, Rational Recovery, the spiritual, health, creative or other revival of your choice, etc..) and become as obsessive/compulsive about it as you have about drinking.
On the one hand it's not as simple as "just quit drinking", but on the other it really IS. It really IS the only thing in your life that is wrong and stopping it, simply DOING NOTHING (not drinking) will ultimately resolve every problem you now have.
First, realize that in your current state, it can be hard to find any reason to live. That is an effect of the addiction/dependency and will wane with time clean. Really. You are not in any position right now to decide if you want to live or die...do what you need to do to get clean for a while and your right mind will come back to you. Things will look completely different. You cannot now imagine the difference in how you will feel, both physically and mentally (although, try remembering how you felt BEFORE).
Or just take it on faith and STOP DRINKING for a while and see. or even (and this is blasphemy to some) cut down gradually until you can go a day, then a few days, then longer, without drinking.
Jesus, shit like this makes me even more pissed off that POT is still illegal and ALCOHOL is sanctioned by both church and state. Yeah, if you can/need to, simply swap habits and switch to cannabis. it has never killed anyone.
You sound like a bigger goon than your "simpleton" in-laws. (And truly is such a simpleton, not a sophisticated intellectual like yourself, presumably...)...
So that's your big checkmate? "I DARE YOU to provide even a single example of government overregulation. See!? Can't do it."
Try going out to obtain a professional services license, or open a business, or build a structure, or...oh, wait...do you do stuff? If you did, you'd know, gov't is a pain in the ass.
The "good" news is that roughly 25% of adult Americans have it too and it's not a death sentence or anything.
It's a virus in the same family as fucking CHICKEN POX and cold sores (both of which almost EVERYONE has and which remain in the body for life following infection OR vaccination with the live CP virus vaccine and can reactivate, as shingles in the case of CP, at any time, esp. with declining immune function or stress).
On the one hand I am sorry for you but on the other...eh.
As Dan Savage pointed out, if you exclude everyone with herpes, you are excluding fully a quarter of potential partners (some of whom might just have something going for them other than their herpes status).
Full disclosure; I don't have herpes (yes, I'm sure, though I DO have CP and cold sore virus somewhere in there). But even if I did...it's ok.
What a brave statement by anonymous. I wonder if anonymous supports any of the causes they speak of. If there are too many people on the planet, why don't you do us all a favor? No you rather condemn others to death.
Personally, I think there is a place for exercising our judgment and calling out those who NEED calling out. To often, we let things slide that SHOULD be publicly condemned.
The asshole who cuts in line, pushes past the elder and/or disabled person or makes a racist or homophobic comment, thinking he/she is safe among fellow racists/homophobes or the parent beating a child in public...rather than sitting silently, afraid to offend or get involved, maybe we SHOULD point fucking fingers and make it clear such behavior is not acceptable.
What? Are we waiting for someone in "authority" to intervene? There's certainly a place for that, but there is also a place for individuals standing up and speaking out. Societal pressure is arguably the most potent force in modifying behavior.
I recall an elderly Black man on a #8 bus 15 or so years ago who confronted a couple of young Black males who were sitting in the priority seating after a very pregnant woman with groceries got on the packed bus...everyone was thinking it, but he alone had the nerve to say, "Boys, get your asses up out of those seats! Don't you see this lady here? I KNOW your mamas' raised you better."
The previously intently oblivious youths quickly removed themselves from the seats and slunk towards the rear of the standing-room-only bus. This man had both the racial and the generational authority to say what needed to be said to these young men, and he took it upon himself to do so when even the driver didn't.
At the same time, we tend to judge one another too harshly at times. Absolutely. But there is certainly a place for calling out offensive or inappropriate behavior.
Aaaaaayyymennnnn, aaaaaaayyymennnnn amen amen. We are contributing to the violence.....aaaaamen. The demons are in our unconscious....aaaaamen. How far are our evil thoughts reaching? Aaaayymen Amen. Pray God we'll post fairer.....before we fall off our virtudestal Amen Amen Amen
Re: hipster = yuppie. No. A yuppie is a young professional. Some tool with a BA from ____ State who moves here to look cool bagging groceries at whole foods is not a professional anything.
If Obama were a White Republican (or even WHITE, honestly) the Right would consider him the greatest thing since sliced Ronald Reagan.
I mean, on his watch, federal spending has increased at the lowest rate in 60 YEARS (1.4% annually VS 5.8% annually under Bush Jr.);
we've had (to date) 56 STRAIGHT months of private sector job growth (as of a few months ago, 9.5 million new PRIVATE SECTOR jobs created, officially replacing ALL of those lost in the Bush recession);
the U.S. has become the world's largest EXPORTER of petroleum;
there's been an average of 60% MORE deportations of illegal immigrants (almost all of them convicted criminals here and/or in their country of origin) than under Bush, DESPITE steep declines in illegal immigration due to the Recession;
and, oh yeah, bin Laden is DEAD (along with a few dozen other terrorist big-wigs, including Gaddafi, a sponsor of terrorism and a despot since the time of Nixon).
You're fucking welcome.
Those are a a few of the specifics morons like your bro-in-law might care about.
You might hold off on trying to convince him with things like Obama's successes in passing comprehensive health insurance industry reform that brings the U.S. a bit closer to the rest of the civilized world wrt health care;
or the passage of the Stimulus package (which a majority of economists credit with averting a full-blown Depression);
or his active support of equal rights for same-sex individuals and couples (e.g. refusing to defend DOMA and DADT, executive order forbidding discrimination in end-of-life situations);
or his stated opposition to Citizens United ;
or his amending of the Bush Wall Street Bail Out to require taxpayer ownership of bailed-out corporations and limits on executive compensation which led to the prompt repayment of ALL taxpayer subsidies;
or his successful repeal of the Bush tax cuts for the richest 2 percent;
or his creation of a powerful new consumer protection agency.
(what is he? a fucking Commie? No, actually closer to that almost extinct species, the Moderate Republican, last spotted in any great numbers or positions of power around the time of Eisenhower.)
ALL accomplished in SPITE of inheriting the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, two nearly decade-long wars, and the largest national debt ever. AND in the face of of the most rabid Congressional opposition and flat-out obstruction in history.
Again, you're fucking welcome (this one is for the liberal/progressives who bash Obama on the grounds, I can only presume, that we'd have all been better off with 4 to 8 MORE years of the Republican, Neo-Con policies that drove this nation off a fucking CLIFF. Idiots.)
FTR, I'm a progressive Independent/Unaffiliated voter going on 20 years now.
I don't want to sound like a public service announcement on my first post, But, there's no subjects quite like politics or religion that bring out the worst in people. Well maybe money (borrowing or borrowed) or bringing up somebody's mamma or daddy.....well you know what I mean.
As a Democrat, there is something to be said about over-regulation...and as an example, just try to do anything on your house, etc here locally and see all the hoops you have to jump through.
And Democrats are pretty full of shit too really.
This one especially seems like someone trying to parody the stupid shit that gets posted here every day. Now why me not laugh?
I'm guessing that all these posts were written by a single person, wishing to "poe" all of us. Because it's really remarkable that saying a bunch of inflammatory shit is going to inflame people.
Chris Hardwick never did a dam thing to u!
We almost kind of like the troll-parody account named Dry White Toast, but it's still too close to the real thing to be funny, so shut the fuck up, troll.
If you say so, CC. I'll admit I'm too Portland-politically-correct sometimes. I know Steve didn't think much of my idea to rename "HUMP!" as "SNUGGLE?"...
"A truffles feast" is just a euphemism for a bunga-bunga party, right?
I hadn't noticed that there was a new post about the event. And since hardly anyone reads Blogtown anyway, and especially old posts...
Not hostile. I was commenting. It's what I do. You think it's a great name, that's fine, I just think "dick" is in your face, so to speak.
The money could come from taxing the humongous police pension fund.
