I think that's the director, not Kathleen. And Corin Tucker. Which is still cool.
Not awesome with female characters? Did you even see his Dawn of the Dead remake?
Exactly, CC. Very well put. No one has come close to explaining how we ended up in a situation where the city is "settling" with a scofflaw property owner.
I'm afraid the answer is just that Amanda Fritz doesn't know what the hell she is doing. If Hales is dumb enough to take up this cause, I at least support his choice to take both Fritz and R2D2 out of the driver's seat. One is incompetent and the other a scofflaw basically trying (successfully) to extort the city.
I used to live in Seattle and I can think of 5 places in the International District alone that serve food until late, and that's just a short walk from the football and baseball fields. Seattle fuckin rules.
Colin, I agree on the some-things-aren't-worth-waiting-for principle. I ate at Jam once and absolutely can't understand the constant brunch line. It was good. Fine. But there are a million places as good where I can get seated within ten minutes.
My brain hurts. Let's put aside for a second the humanitarian part of this - I'm otherwise very in favor of adequate access to services for the disadvantaged, this just seems procedurally bizarre.
What I'm trying to understand is how assessing fines against a landowner for allowing a homeless encampment on his land morphed into a situation where the fines are all waived and the city is essentially taking responsibility for establishing a permanent home for an ill-defined, zoning unicorn of an encampment, as well as defending its actions against all NIMBY comers (and their legal teams) in Old Town and the Pearl.
What am I missing here? If I get 30 speeding tickets, can I flip the script so the city buys me a new car?
Mark Kramer should open a firm specializing in similar legal Jiu Jitsu for other clients and call it "R2MeToo."
But were they entertaining? Did the audience have a good time? When I saw them recently, I was totally entertained and enjoyed every unique minute. The songs are tuneful. The choreography was visually satisfying. They had personalities. They are not a punk band with instruments. They are performers who aim differently than the acts that perhaps you are used to. I had a good time.
IF DENIS IS GOING TO WRITE ABOUT CANADIA AND NOT MENTION THAT HE'S A CANADANAN, THAT'S BULLSHIT. HE NEEDS TO SELF-DISCLOSE THIS INFORMATION SO THAT WE CAN ASCERTAIN HOW WE FEEL ABOUT HIS OBVIOUS BIASES.
Frame it, put it in your living room above the TV, and ask them over for dinner without saying anything.
15 months in a building vs. the limit of 12 months under the cold Broadway Bridge that Amanda Fritz came up with? WTF is the problem Fritz? She and the RTD2 attorney are looking a gift horse in the mouth.
Enid, Oklahoma, motherfuckers!
1. Do we look like Dan Savage?
2. Keep your mouth shut.
3. A link would've been nice.
4. "Porn habbits" looks like "porn hobbits."
When Seattle and Portland are the same future city, no one cares.
Both of these cities were ruined by assholes like you.
A picture of a woman who resembled a close friend of mine appeared on our college message board. It was her doppelganger and a man engaged in anal coitus. It wasn't her but she became aware of it and she wrote the site manager to remove the photo. That photo lead to some awkward circumstances but had she not handled the situation it could have been much worse for her.
We laud the Mercury truffling out corruption and mismanagement. And we don't intrude into how the Mercury spends the money gained from our eyeballs on its office parties. But perhaps the sin, if any, is that the story of Dexter Gordon was not shared with city staff. The easy version is see the film Round Midnight. It is the story of an African American leaving America for Europe to live without the heavy weight of American racism, and to be respected and honored there for their music. Some say the film was modeled after the life of other musicians. But Gordon playing the lead in the film is all in, himself having fled racism for Europe, struggled with substance problems, finally returning to the US for a few years of grateful performances, finally appreciated, before passing away at age 67. So yes our hipster lifestyles or self righteous water bill payer attitude may seem remote from the life of Gordon. But that doesn't mean we, or city employees, can't learn from it.
Go back to Tacoma.
Been a Portland resident 20 years but prefer Seattle. They had their ego stroke in the early 90's and have since recalibrated. Portland is in the throes of it's hipster circle jerk golden hour and it has gotten to the point of unbearable absurdity. I've never been in a city that thought so highly itself for no real reason other than the forced/contrived "weirdness" that's really not that weird when you go cities like SF, Austin, etc.
Seattle women are dead ass sexy too, which is really why I prefer it over Portland.
