Opera Cinema Dada

When: June 20-21, 8 p.m. and Sun., June 21, 3 p.m. 2009
Price: $15-17
Thank god that the peak of the Dadaist movement occurred during the silent film era, and before the censorship movement took off. Otherwise we may never have gotten to see "nuns in rubber play accordions...children dodge a woman throwing knives" and other great moments in morally confused surrealist film. Opera Theater Oregon is reviving 11 of these dusty gems, along with live opera singers, band and sound effects. It's the way god intended them to be screened. (Film nerds take note: If you're just looking for a fix of campy, black-and-white projection you can get a $5 ticket to the bonus, sort-of talkie feature Daughter of Horror, screening after the shorts.) Evening shows are 21+.
