This place is truly one of Portland's gems. From the bright-blue exterior to the eclectic, welcoming dining room to the rustic back porch bar and large. beautiful backyard patio garden. They serve super-tasty, simple, authentic Mexican food (no burritos or shredded iceberg lettuce here, folks) in a lively and colorful Dia de los Muertos-inspired atmosphere. Dine on gigantic tortas or sopes or mole with blackberries beneath the Frida Kahlo tribute wall or sip truly amazing cocktails on one of the best garden patios in town. If you're feeling adventurous, try the Spicy Vampiro, possibly the most perfect cocktail ever -but not for the faint of heart. All this and the icing on the cake... their happy hour starts at 8pm and lasts until close!
Out by Washington Square Mall, one hears tales of a tiny restaurant barely able to seat a handful of people. This place, they say, serves huge portions of Persian food. That's right: Persian food practically in the suburbs! They call it Shiraz. Seek it out when you need a break from your shopping spree and Sbarro just isn't going to hit the spot.
Many food carts are known for mediocre food and relatively short hours. Not so with Aybla. They offer a good selection of Mediterranean offerings and use local and organic ingredients as much as possible. Gyros and other grilled dishes are available along with vegetarian-friendly mezzas and salads. They are also one of few carts open until the early evening and on Saturdays!
