New socially conscientious coffee shop serving Stumptown Coffee, Foxfire teas and Sweetpea Bakery's vegan goodies.
Eclectic spot in an older craftsman house nearly hidden from view by the surrounding trees and shrubs. The bizarre 70's style wallpaper, odd things hanging from the ceiling and the reports of hauntings and the surrounding foliage make you feel like you've slipped into a dimension similar but not quite the same as our own. Coffee and deserts are served for your voyage.
Coffee, teas, beers, sweet things, small plates of nibbles, and hookahs on the large garden patio are all part of the attraction to this Victorian house turned hippie-ish coffee/tea shop.
Sick of corporate coffee? Muddy Waters, a worker-owned java joint just may have your cure. A really comfortable atmosphere awaits inside this old storefront on Belmont. Somewhat rustic with nice little artistic touches along with featured work by local artists. Most of their baked goods are done in-house and they have bagels, wraps and other hunger appeasers. Look for live music, spoken word and tarot card readings and a nice progressive attitude.
Located just off bustling Hawthorne Boulevard, Chance of Rain is a little oasis of chill amongst the shoppers and tourists. Along with fair trade coffees, teas, organic juices, beer, and wine, they offer the usual collection of cafe food i.e. soup, salad, sandwiches, burritos, nachos and a whole bunch of other stuff. On weekends check out their special Sunday brunch (complete with dj) to break your fast. Most of the food is vegetarian or vegan but if you really crave some bacon, don't worry they aren't quite that pc. Books and games and computers are available for you to while your time.

A comfortable, homey, kinda grungy throwback in a neighborhood full of boutiques and wine bars. Second-hand furniture, retro-kitsch decor, a bunch of beers on tap, make for a perfectly good place for meeting friends or throwing back a cold one before (or after) a movie at the Laurelhurst. The food is simple, decent and won't eat a hole in your wallet. Entertainment is provided by the jukebox as well as live bands and DJs.
You could call the baristas at Albina Press "coffee artists," if it didn't sound so pretentious (no matter how true it is). They make truly professional coffee drinks, then they send their baristas to national coffee competitions, then they win or at least place because they're that good. It's also a gorgeous atmosphere and they always have some hot local artist showing off their work on the walls.
Sunny coffee shop in a cool old turn-of-the-century storefront. It has a distinctly gay vibe but has a big neighborhood following as well. Stumptown coffee, loose leaf teas, baked goods, bagels, sandwiches, soup and more are on the menu. A good place to read, chat, blog, cruise (a ton of bear-types meet there every Saturday), play a game of pool or catch some live music.
Huge windows, comfy chairs, rotating local art, bagels, bagel sandwiches, panini sandwiches, salad, soup, pinball and expertly crafted Stumptown coffee drinks. Are those enough reasons to patronize Tinys?
The gallery aspect of Opposable Thumb features a monthly rotating selection of local art, while the café serves tempting Spanish style sandwiches, foccia pizzas, soups, salads, gelato and of course, coffee.
