Famous for their deep-fried salt and pepper squid, Thien Hong is always a-bustle with customers hankering Cantonese and Vietnamese fare. The lunch specials are a great deal at under 5 bucks. Other items include: Pho noodle soup, spicy pork spare ribs (bone-in), mu-shu pork with pancakes, General Tso's Tofu (yeah I said tofu, wanna make something of it?) and even bubble tea.
Thai houses have some steep competition in Portland, especially on NE Sandy. Cha'ba Thai is definitely one of the top contenders: its lunch specials are fast, full of flavor, and not too hard on the bank account.
Popular downtown lunch spot with the usual Thai suspects. Choose your protein and spiciness (careful the spicy is mega-hot). The space isn't too big so it can fill up fast during lunch. Dinner is usually a little quieter.
