Red-walled, candle-lit hipster hangout. Varied menu with cheap and better-than-average bar food makes carnivores and vegetarians happy and full. Good looking waitstaff serves up some mean cocktails too. Watch for daily specials.
The Bar of the Gods (BOG to kids in the know) is a mainstay of the upper Hawthorne bar district and is that particularly Portland breed of hipster dive bar. It's dark, it (used to be) smoky, and the bartenders are oooh, way cooler than you, but the food is good, mostly vegetarian and the full menu is served until 1:30am! Plus, they've got cheap pinball and pool and there are decent beers on tap. So go even if you don't own a pair of white framed sunglasses.
