Multnomah is non-denominational, conservative, fundamentalist Christian - Bible thumpers. Evolution didn't happen, the earth is young, abortion is murder, homosexuality is forbidden. They are not practitioners of hate rhetoric, racism, and harassment of those who disagree.
Before it was Multnomah College it was Multnomah School of the Bible, and the correct phrase alluded to in the article is "Multnomah School of the Bubble."
I attended in the late 70s - rules then included a ban on "cards of the type commonly used in gambling" (Old Maid was OK), any movies at all, being less than 35 while under the same roof with someone of the opposite sex and, for girls, wearing certain types of jeans, but the dean who made the rule couldn't tell which jeans were ok when given a pile from which to select.
Famous alumnae include Bettie Page, the beautiful lingerie and bondage model, and Ferdinand Waldo Demarra, the Great Imposter. Dang it, I missed Bettie by 13 years!
A danger of such places lies in the fundamentalist reliance on the Bible as the source of scientific ignorance. I couldn't maintain those or other beliefs and soon reverted to my normal state of open-minded, authority-questioning atheism.
