Re: “Oregonian Reports Cartopia Slated for Redevelopment

There's nothing wrong with Gresham or Vancouver; when I was a kid you didn't want to pass Rhone going North if I remember correctly in SE, and the Aladdin wasn't a music venue back then. They just had a movie called "Deep Throat" which I wasn't supposed to see (still haven't seen it Mom and Dad.) I moved away at 18 to Madison where everything was set in stone: The food carts were on campus, the main drag was expensive (more expensive than almost any place in SE or NE or really anywhere else in Portland) for a studio so I lived in a co-op, and when I moved back here I loved that experience of getting affordable food without much of the wait and the social interaction was fun, especially at Cartopia at 4 in the morning, probably too drunk to remember that I ordered it.

Thing is, when I was growing up here (and correct me if I'm wrong people who have been here longer) my Brooklyn neighborhood was kind of the first place new "transplants" were moving into. It was cheap for artists and musicians (for context I live right across the street from what used to be the Brooklyn skate park) I'm fine with evicting/pricing out the riff raff artists like myself who like to accidentally wake up parents who have big boy/girl jobs, because I'll need to talk to a doctor some day I'm sure, but getting rid of that food cart pod is removing a big part of the cultural dichotomy that made this neighborhood a desirable place for young families in the first place. So to all you parents with a baby in the "Slayer" onesie who liked to pet the goats or have easy access to a free skatepark or french fries within stumbling distance to home on your night out: Y'all been fucked.

Re: “Oregonian Reports Cartopia Slated for Redevelopment

I grew up in the Division neighborhood and it really sucks. Found a spot near where I grew up that was about 300/month when I moved back to Portland. Now I'm being forced to leave in about 9 days so that I can become a condo.

So long SE Portland.

Sincerely,

A condo.

Re: “Dave Chappelle Does It Again—and Again, and Again.

I still feel bad about this.. it was years ago but I was drunk at a free comedy show at the Tiger Bar downtown. I wasn't even paying attention to what the guy was saying but I shouted "You know what's funny?" he responds "what?" I yell "Jokes." It got a ton of laughs but I felt like shit. I still feel like shit. I was going through a bad time in my life. If you're out there and happen to be reading this, please accept my apology. :(

Re: “Carl Kasell Is Retiring

For some reason I thought he had already retired a few years ago. Sad. I probably would've kept NPR as my alarm clock station instead of Radio Disney if I had known. Except Kassell's voice always just made me want to go back to sleep and dream of triangle unicorns under the sea or something.

Re: “A Goat Simulator. Thank God.

They've been there since.. I think 2010 or 2011, on and off. Originally they were used as lawnmowers of sorts but the storeowner on Morrison missed them so he bought them, making it more of a goat pasture that you could enter, and to a certain extent feed. I saw the little orange goats at only a few days old, and I was as gitty as the toddler next to me. A friend of mine is helping curate this new goat pasture, which I think will be a good addition to the Lents neighborhood. Sucks not having the goats on my daily commute, and it really sucks that Goat Simulator won't have multiplayer, but oh well.

Re: “You Guys Do Remember that RoboCop Has Almost Always Sucked, Right?

When it came out I was only 5, and I got addicted to that stupid arcade game at the Pizza Hut. By the time I was old enough to see (or have access to) R-rated movies, films like "The Matrix" were pretty much the norm, so I didn't see it until 25 or so. Robocop 3 was also PG13 if I remember, and unless it's a remake of something like "Night of the Living Dead" a "Trailer Park Boys" movie, people shouldn't feel any sort of bloodlust or need for f-bombs.

I'll wait like I did with pacific rim for it to go to the laurelhurst, but I'm at least interested.

Re: “You Guys Do Remember that RoboCop Has Almost Always Sucked, Right?

I second the "Our Robocop Remake" link. Some of the sketches are less funny than others, but I laughed the whole way through, especially through Fatal Farm's segment. Definitely don't watch it at work though: after a seemingly SFW first segment it goes straight to dicks. Lots of dicks. Unless you work at a dick factory, in which case you'll be fine.
