My guess is that BMI hired people to post the user comments by PDX composer and NYC Engineer. We are one sick society when it reaches this point.
Was the matress store wearing padding? I mean a helmet. What kind of idiot would put a store on a street knowing the risks, and not wearing a helmet.
The Supreme Court is a bit slow on human rights. They supported prison for 100k + innocent Japanese people following Pearl Harbor. They supported restrictions on marriage between multicultural people until 1967. Someday they might get god off the dollar and have some cents.
Rally to support Planned Parenthood and Birth Control. - Monday 5-6PM Feb 21st. at Planned Parenthood Center at 3727 NE MLK Jr. Blvd. in Portland - This is a well needed story, but reader comments are much less important than actually doing something to protect women's reproductive rights. Note that this is a war on women. The congress is not acting swiftly to cut taxpayer funding for viagra.
Thanks for writing this. It's depressing, but shines a light on the apathy we've seeded. We are all to blame.
Each year we spend more on highways and illegal wars, and less on schools and human support services. Should we blame the lawmakers? the lobbyists who run the country? or our neighbors for not calling their lawmakers? We can think. We know the cause, we know the result(effect) of our apathy.
This guy and his family could have had some state sponsored Divorce counseling and legal help. We saved money by not providing those. He could have been given free SRO housing; we saved by not providing that. He could have volunteered while being supported by his neighbors. Help requires money, death is cheap.
Way to go Mercury Staff! Wanna keep the good feelings going? Go after the Oregonian for being a lap dog of Randy Leonard.
Truth: Leonard is on record as being not in agreement with people like me who argued the sit/lie ordinance was unconstitutional. Fast forward to 143 and then 188 minutes into this video. April 29th, 2009
Then read the Oregonian misinformation that Leonard has always opposed sit lie on the grounds it violates the constitution. June 23rd
Then email the managing editor of the Oregonian, who refused to correct their error.
There should be a pulitzer category for newspapers that catch other newspapers being the lapdogs of lying politicians. When a politician speaks, aren't reporters supposed to question them?
Linda Meng, the city Attorney needs to be fired for advising City Council that Sit/Lie was A-OK. Please file a FOA to get that memo.
Thank you Sarah Mirk for the well written article. I was there, and I feel like you did a great job recording some of the best quotes.
I loved this one: Politicians' discussion over whether this should be 10 lanes or 12 lanes sounds like a couple of middle school boys arguing over what color Lamborghini they want. They're very opinionated but they don't have the money to afford any of them.
Finally, you gotta report both sides, and the pro 12 lane people have a lot of nut bag rumors that are worth reporting as false. Mostly that the current CRC bridge is a safety risk that needs replacement. Robert Liberty of the Metro Council pointed out many ODOT facts like this. It seems the media is missing out on this sky is falling lie about the CRC bridge.
