So what's your work all about? For real. Why should I care? Sell me. I know nothing about you.
my biggest gripe is that, for the second year in a row, an ATM rented by PICA charged my account but didn't dispense cash. apparently i'm the only person this happened to last year (and this year, so far), but seriously, this reduces general confidence in the infrastructure of the festival. and it's especially annoying when you're hungry and waiting 30 minutes past a scheduled start time, knowing full well that dinner just isn't gonna happen this time around... would've left if i wasn't reviewing the show.
I think they were doing something with light controllers-- manipulated by what the host described as live moire-- selecting frequency and oscillation ranges and applying those parameters to values of light and dark. I spoke with Abe Ingle after the performance and he knew a lot more about the types of input devices that I've seen Lucky Dragons use in this and past performances (tune-yards' release show for Bird Brains resulted in a Lucky Dragon set where the audience controlled synths with rocks and an input device that manipulated sound via human touch-- in the end, a pile of people were writhing on the floor of Holocene, the sound reflecting the cumulative, touchy-feely human mass.)
I bet Abe could talk more on this in technical terms-- you out there Abe? Fill us in!
@ Graham: It looks like everyone there will get free drinks with their ticket. The press release says: "Beer generously provided by Pacifico, Ninkasi and Trumer Pils will be served by local artists bartending for the evening."
The minimum donation is $5, so if you can hammer back your money's worth in three hours, it might not be a bad deal. It doesn't sound like that's really the point of the whole thing, but I'm sure there will be a few people there just for that reason.
That Presidential Ham show looks hilarious/awesome-- good eye, Ginny!
sueno: Re: "OMSI is not an art museum." True. I guess I just feel like museum staff should be encouraging the museum experience-- for the health of museums in general.
Chris: The above links to (En)Counter's tweets are viewable to people without an account-- just click on through. And here's a link to our art listings, in case you wanna browse for something with a set time and place: http://www.portlandmercury.com/events/Even…
