I sincerely hope you guys send someone to catch The Immigrant. It didn't get screened for critics, but that has less to do with quality than the Weinsteins sulking over James Gray refusing to re-edit the movie. (Don't be surprised if the same thing happens with Snowpiercer).
It's certainly the film I'm most excited for this weekend. And both the AV Club and The Dissolve straight up called the movie a masterpiece, so it's not like it's dead in the water critically.
"date rape meet-cute"
How is this not a band name yet?
The ultimate tell: the "Grand Opening" sign up weeks (sometimes months) after opening. At some point, the sign drives people away. At that point, restaurants need to have some faith in themselves.
I agree it's sort of mean-spirited to name names. Perhaps, Falcone, you could try some of these places, and if they're actually good, write them up. Talking with business owners, you can't underestimate how much even a blog post (forget a published article) can boost some of these places.
Yeah, this place has become one of my favorite spots. I'm almost torn recommending it: on one hand, I want them to have the success they deserve. On the other, I've seen the late night weekend crowd at Montage and (sometimes) Robo Taco, and that's the last thing I need to deal with here. Oh, and believe me, once they learn about this place, they'll come.
So there you have it. A place too good to share. Try it. And make sure you don't miss the Specials board off to the side.
Morrissey's Cholo fan contingency is legendary.
Was ANYTHING not sold out hours in advanced this Christmas evening?!
Honestly, as an Inner Portland dweller, I'd like to know what the suburb back-up theater of choice is in this town.
Same director. Same character (sort of). Completely different kind of film.
Carax is one of the great filmmakers of our era, so consider this must see (the uninitiated might want to swing by their local video store and pick up "Mauvais Sang" or "Lovers on the Bridge" first).
