"Minimalist dance" in this case quite literally meant the dancers spent most of the show walking slowly around the stage. There was nothing challenging, shocking, confronting, or even authentic about this. It was just terribly, nauseatingly dull. Yes, Mr. Hoghe has severe scoliosis and does not look like a traditional dancer; the problem is that there wasn't any dancing, or much of anything at all. As an audience member, I love a good challenge, and would have loved if, indeed, Mr. Hoghe "threw his body into the fight." There was nothing of the sort. There was nothing much at all, no fight, no fire, no passion, no challenge, no beauty, no revelation, and really, not much of anything. Blah. Less than blah.
