The Willamette Week are a bunch of idiots for not reviewing this great show going down on a Sunday night in Portland. Rafael has worked his ass off and made some great new, original music and also put together an awesome party which includes some amazing national touring acts like Grayskul and B Dolan.. Thank you Mercury for keeping your ears open even tho you take the easy way and use the words rap rock in your review.
Nice job Ezra on taking on The Oregonian's Anna Griffin article. There really are several sides of this issue that when writing about should be addressed which looks like Anna missed. No diss on Anna because house parties / no place for kids to go watch all ages shows is a complicated issue. As someone who throws all ages shows at various venues in town I feel bad for the kids here in Portland and Not just the kids the 21 and over crowd as well. I have been throwing shows for a long time here in Portland and every year it gets tougher to do and more expensive. For a touring band to be able to spread their music and make it to the next city House parties are the only option because their is very little if any money being made at live shows in music venues unless your a national act that can charge 10+ dollars and have over a 100 person draw. I encourage people to keep having house parties but the folks throwing them really have to be responsible for their neighborhoods and guest. Some folks out there throwing house parties that dont give a shit about their guest are really going to fuck it up for the people truly trying to help out touring bands and that actually care about our local scene.
Also the weekend will showcase art work by Someone Clothing and Art design and also local photographer Arian Stevens. Each artist will also be contributing art work to the raffle as well.
Throughout the weekend we will be showing local hip hop artist music videos. We wanted to make sure we were fully representing our local scene so we will be showing videos from artist that are on the fest and also videos from artist that are not on this years festival. We have some local artist with some amazing creative videos that are available on youtube but never get the chance to showcase their videos in front of a live audience. We will be showing Cool Nutz new video Baseall Numbers which is featured on his new CD Incredible. We will also be showing videos by IAME of Sandpeople, Dark Time Sunshine, Soul P, Sleep of Chicharones and Oldominion and also videos from Sapient of the Sandpeople crew to name a few.
