finally! the first official oregon symphony classical concert of the 2010/11 season is thankfully upon us (i consider the earlier september performances pre-season games that didn’t count towards stats). and, just to sweeten the puddin’, the concert happens to fall on my birthday. that’s right: on october 4, 1973 at 8:29 p.m. i decided to upgrade from the cramped insides of my mother to the roomier and much airier outside world. and, as if it couldn’t possibly get any better, at the exact moment i achieve 37 rotations around the sun, i’ll be transfixed by the incredible first movement of tchaikovsky’s (fabulous!) violin concerto. i can’t imagine how the crowd’s not going to applaud after that 18-minute chunk of bliss… bedamn tradition! rockstar soloist hilary hahn is going to wow in this concert – dramatic, melodramatic, overdramatic, insanely emotional, bombastically technical, intimate, classical, romantic, modern, and authentic to it’s core – pyotr’s score calls for everything that’s available within an orchestra and solo violinist. come celebrate!
