Re: “Evil Dead: The Musical

I had seen EDtM in Seattle in 2010 and it was fantastic so I was really looking forward to the Portland production last summer. I was sorely disappointed. The first problem was that none of the actors could sing. Oh, one or two of them were passable, but the rest couldn't carry a tune. The song "Good Old Reliable Jake" would have been funny if the joke was that Jake couldn't hit a single note, but it wasn't played that way.

The splatter zone was a joke. Rather than being sprayed by blood from the stage or from the actors, there were a couple of assistants wandering the splatter zone with plant misters. Why bother?

Inexplicably, this production used canned music. Why would you do that in Portland? You can find talented musicians everywhere you look in this city.

All in all it was a waste of $25 and I would recommend that everybody avoid the Portland production if it's being put on by the same troop.
