"It's 'Dances with Wolves' meets...uh...well, it's pretty much 'Dances with Wolves.' But in space!"
I love it that the guy provides a RANGE for his own crowd--the one that was right there next to him.
"Nolen had concerns about the repeated mention of private security in the plan, and about its inclusion of the downtown retail strategy."
Yes, how very ODD that a plan aimed at keeping sidewalks clear/safe downtown would take into account the economic well-being of downtown merchants. Positively daft, if you ask me.
Damn, Rush is pissed.
A better tactic would be to pressure the state government to make phone book delivery an "opt-in" program. Or, at the very least, have them make a single "opt-out" website where you can go to have your name taken off ALL the lists. As it is now there are a half dozen companies delivering these things, and so you have to track down 6 different ways to get your name off the list.
I agree with Dan's views on drug legalization, and on the foolishness of our "war on drugs," but think he's being a little unfair here.
The reporter was probably assigned the story and told to write about the problems with Mexican cartels growing drugs on public lands. Not "write a think piece about drugs and whether or not legalization would put a halt to cartels growing pot on public lands." He wrote what he was assigned to write. It would be like yelling at a reporter who just covered a bad auto accident because he didn't include quotes from bike commuters and anti-car activists, and because he didn't include anything about how our consumption of oil is causing global warming.
Patrick--the "Road Warrior" term is one that's really come into its own in the past couple months (locally, at least), and is generally used as a broad term to describe a large group of young(ish) "homeless by choice" people who travel around the West Coast, migrating here and there as weather dictates. They are viewed as criminals who happen to be homeless rather than homeless people who need services. Hence the "we want to serve homeless people, not the Road Warriors" attitude you hear expressed.
