Re: “Gaya Gaya

Great sushi! Always super fresh. Their bento boxes are a bargain, and you never leave hungry. Decent hot sake for only 6 bucks. Great service.

Re: “Casa del Matador

We came here for happy hour a few weeks ago. The food was good. Great portions-we had a salad that my boyfriend still raves about. The calamari was perfectly cooked-although the sauce that came with it for dipping lacked something-it was good, but the flavor of the calamari was already so bold, it lost its flavor next to it. The chicken wings were AWESOME not too gristly not too dry, and the flavor was a sweet/smoky combination that worked very well. It was served with this creamy herbed sauce--that we actually ended up dipping the calamari in too. The real star though was the garlic prawns. Just try them. You will be happy you did.

The negative: The service. It wasn't horrible, but for the kind of restaurant this place is trying to be...they can do better. A suggestion to the ower/manager: Cute does not equal competent. The hostess was non-existent, and our server was...bizarre. She tried making too much awkward conversation, she brought our drinks, THEN carded us, then proceded to study my boyfriends ID intensely for like 3 full minutes. Then she started making conversation about how different his ID was from other IDs (mind you there was no question about his beinf of age..he's 35) It was just weird. Then we were sitting all the way around the corner from the entrance -outside-there was no one out there at all, and no signs posted, no other tables etc, and this snotty woman came all the way from inside to inform us that there was no smoking. We had to get up and stand 1 foot away from our table if we wanted to smoke.
The people who own this joint must be from California.
