Thank fsm that somebody put this company together. For every questionable choice (not casting Ben Vereen, for example), TPA made about 100 right ones. In the end, the show doesn't hang together, and it never has: the music's way harder than it sounds, and the the narrative...well, is there one?
Doesn't matter: the whole night's worth it for the scena between Pippin (earnest, cute) and Catherine (even cuter, funny, and nice pipes) and a dozen or so people busting their asses for you like it's the Shubert theater.
It feels like something's happening for real. Just go and see it; you want musical theater in Portland as much as I do.
