You question our badass-ish-ness? We're working hard to make the Red Cross the RAD Cross. Check out the photos from the event -- motorcycle crashes, golf course cardiac arrest and more...
P.S. We'll do it again next year.
Natasha did a fantastic job with her list above. And McAngryPants and Fruit Cup aren't far from wrong -- you DO want to have at least a few items that will make you feel comfortable in your kit (think Cougar Gold canned cheese or freeze-dried ice cream) and a neighborhood coffee shop or restaurant makes for a great emergency meeting place.
Couple of other thoughts: We encourage "preparedness potlucks," where you invite a group of people to bring quantities of one preparedness kit item. You all swamp what you've brought and -- voila! -- a complete disaster kit (or at least the start of one) is formed for each guest.
We've got a ton of tips online as well. There's a free interactive preparedness class at www.oregonredcross.org/beredcrossready and there are earthquake tips at www.oregonredcross.org/earthquakes. Feel free to also check out our blog: www.oregonredcross.org/blog or follow us on Twitter @RedCrossPDX. We talk about preparedness a lot, but we really try hard to make it empowering, not intimidating!

American Red Cross
Just 'cuz we get this question frequently...
The rules regarding gay men and blood donation are set by the FDA, not the Red Cross. In fact, we've been advocating for change for years now and call the regulations "medically and scientifically unwarranted."

Always happy to answer any questions!
American Red Cross -- Oregon Trail Chapter
Just wanted to offer a quick correction. The Red Cross operates an emergency warming center at Imago Dei that is only open in the most severe weather. We aren't affiliated with the Downtown Chapel location.
The Red Cross center was open again last night and had about 156 guests (5 pets). If people are interested in getting involved as volunteers, they can visit www.oregonredcross.org/EWC.
Racha Thai and Asian Kitchen (Clackamas Town Center) will donate 50% of proceeds on Sunday, Jan. 24.

We LOVE the French maids instructional video. Ooh la la!
Thanks for the mention of the Singles CPR event -- we are 99.9% sure it will be ridiculously awesome.
And additional thanks for the Twitter link. We've got nothing but love for the Merc, especially after Amy Ruiz picked us as the winner of Blog-Off '08!
While we can't condone posing as Red Cross aid workers, I'm glad you got your letters back. Can I convince your team of crack experts to help us with our kidnapping? Read all about it here:
