I chose not to discuss the ticket prices or surrounding controversy in this article at all. The band doesn't have much/any control over what the promoters choose to charge for this show. Their music means a lot to a lot of people (myself included) and I don't think the ticket price and consequent outrage is the most interesting thing to write about. But sorry you're so upset Jake.
I also found this less annoying than the movie and more genuine, and genuinely funny, in parts. For example.."i'm going to die...like Flaubert...IN A GARRET". Also, the insightful commentary from men on the street...these are the real things shaping the life of Girls today.
Better character development too--the dynamic between the three main girls is much more interesting than any in the movie.
I'm pretty sure I could do a killer Portland version...instead of scenes riding the subway, angsty scenes on the Max; instead of unpaid internships going nowhere, service industry jobs going nowhere; and existential dinner parties where people are much, much drunker.
aaand all time favorites:
"It's about moving beyond fear...looking at the world with love." --Special Agent Dale Cooper
"...my son was standing there. He was happy, and carefree...clearly living a life of deep harmony and joy. We embraced--a warm, loving embrace. Nothing withheld. We were, in this moment, one. My vision ended. I awoke with a tremendous feeling of optimism and confidence in you and your future. That was my vision of you. I'm so glad I had this opportunity to share it with you (pause). I wish you nothing but the very best in all things." Major Briggs
"Before we assume our respective roles in this enduring drama, just let me say--that, when these frail shadows we inhabit now have quit the stage, we'll meet, and raise a glass again together, in Valhalla"
It never seemed like Tom and Ann dating would be more than a joke, and its not working the way they're trying to do it. I would like to see some real interest in each other happen from either one of them. Or just stop it!
Same with April, she needs some kind of 'development' instead of more of the same.
Actually now that I say that I realize thats what I want for ALL the characters and the show itself.
Yes, April is being Andyized...but isn't that how relationships go? She is savvy about some things, but "life skills" maybe not so much.
And the voiceover practice...my greatest LOL in a long while.
