Re: “Hawthorne Bridge

Apparently there were some problems with the initial install on that first day, but I've been pretty much digging every part of this I've been to.
This all looks like a pretty good festival to me....

Re: “UP & COMING

Filastine, [dunkelbunt], Resident Anti-Hero, GlobalRuckus, Prashant @ Refuge - 9/17/2010

Ruckusworld Presents and Beloved bring you a night of Outer-National Sounds.

Pulling in an eclectic mix of artists with an outernational or activist bent, we present to you.

Filastine - Coming in all the way from Barcelona, just before launching his tour with BassNectar, you will be treated to an audio and visual feast of cross-cultural sound fed through this talented beat blender. Emerg-N-See 2008 and Earthdance 2010 Vancouver headliner, Grey Filastine is a producer/musician based in Barcelona, but more often found traveling with his nomadic studio: studying jajouka trance rhythms in Morocco, recording rappers in Indonesia, and gathering street noise from everywhere to compose a dense transnational bass music. It’s a sound that collides the deepest frequencies of dubstep with syncopated beat science, acoustic instruments and voices of many tongues. Best known for his hectic live performances, Filastine triggers riddims and synchronized video from a heap of electronics and an amplified shopping cart, expertly fusing digital elements with live percussion.

[dunkelbunt] - Hailing from Vienna and making his second Portland appearance (just before scrambling down to Earthdance), this Balkan beats-meister is a master of cross continental sounds, mashing up a tasty blend of the Orient, Balkans and Caribbean sounds into an aural smorgasborg. Prepare to be delighted.

Resident Anti-Hero - Emerging from their secret hide-out, this duo brings hard hitting style of activist hip-hop. Through the use of music, extended-metaphor and storytelling, the band offers an in-depth narrative encompassing issues of world politics, environmental awareness, social justice, survivalism and sustainable living.

GlobalRuckus - Portland's trans-national groove maniac. A man who obsessively scours the four corners of the earth for the hot emerging etno-tek sounds that are percolating in their regional ethnic communities. Specializing in Balkan beats, Arabic hiphop, electro-cumbia, reggeaton, bhangra, danchall, with the added spices of banda, samba, kuduro, and any other culturally rich sounds that engage him, you're guaranteed a wild ride on the dancefloor.

Prashant - This multi-talented Cornell Graduate and ex- Intel Engineer is a Bollywood Singer, Dance Instructor, and DJ, spinning an eclectic mix of International dance music to packed houses nationwide. He has a residency in Portland with his packed Jai Ho! Bollywood and Bhangra parties at Lola's Room and is starting a more international flavored event in Sept. with GlobalRuckus (details coming shortly).
