Re: “Adams Gives Interview To Supporter

If people are focused on Sam's sex life instead of the economy, then they have nothing to blame but themselves and their own warped priorities.

This thing has reached beyond the point of ridiculousness. It's like some collective insanity has hit about half the people here, and I'm really ashamed that this is happening in Portland.

SERIOUSLY, get the fuck over this already and let's move on with things that actually MATTER.

Re: “A Progress Report on the Citizen Review Committee

Why does the MAX go over the bridge suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuper sloooooooooooooow now between the Rose Quarter Transit Center and downtown? Didn't used to. Is it because the bridge might collapse at any moment?

Re: “Caption this Photo of Kitten Vs. Turkey

There's something really "Fox News" about this kind of shit. Meanwhile, did you know Obama recently appointed a Rothschild minion to the office of Secretary of the Treasury? My relief over his victory isn't going to prevent me from looking critically at what he does in office, and this is a major disappointment before he even begins his term. The Rothschilds stumped for McCain and are connected to an international banker's consortium that now has virtually unlimited power over OUR money. Foreign powers controlling our economy is something that our past presidents and founding fathers - especially Abraham Lincoln, one of Obama's heroes! - warned and fought about. The Federal Reserve is a PRIVATE CORPORATION, not a federal entity, and with the appointment of Geithner to the Sec'y post it now has more power than ever. This isn't socialized banking, it's a further move in the direction of what Naomi Wolf calls "The End of America."

Re: “Readings Tonight

(my belated reaction to last night)

I'm really happy Barack won and can hardly believe that he did so in such a landslide fashion. It shows how demoralized and cynical I'd become over the last 8 dreary years.

I support universal healthcare. I do not want Roe v. Wade overturned as I see abortion as a woman's issue that the government should not be involved with. I'm also hoping Obama will begin to shape America's position in the world in a new direction - away from imperialism and all the bad karma we've been putting out into the world for so long now (Example: when Pakistan and India nearly went to war several years ago, the U.S. weapons industry sold fighter craft, munitions etc. to BOTH SIDES - this tells the world that all that matters to us is profit.) In order to accomplish this, we need to let GO of our need to be the world's only superpower and to dominate everyone else. You may think that's crazy, but I'm not listening to your cynical "nothing's going to change, and nothing needs to change" viewpoint any more. Because we're going to lose the position of world dominance whether we want to or not. It's already happening. History has proven time and time again that empires don't last.
EMPIRES NEVER LAST!

I'm both excited at the prospect of Obama's presidency and fearful of the way the deck is stacked against him - so much negative karma which he didn't put into the world but will have to take responsibility for and deal with. But he exudes confidence, and that makes me confident for him. Here's hoping that better times are in store, and the age of cynicism and regression that basically set in at the end of the 60s and has plagued us ever since may finally be on its last sickly legs.

Re: “Meet Joe (the) Plummer

I watched the debate at Kelly's Olympian. Obama is more humane and in touch with reality and is able to hold a civil discourse without losing his cool. McCain clung to Republican buzz phrases (no more taxes! no more spending! no more terror!) and used repeated annoying terms like "Joe the Plumber" and "precious children," but with that scary clenched jaw and row of yellow teeth he looks like he wants to eat some precious children, not save them. He looks like a giant naked mole rat with lockjaw. But he's a mean old snake and on the offensive and a lot of people who DON'T live in Portland are going to like that and I wouldn't rule out the possibility of a McCain victory by any means. Unfortunately.

Re: “Tomorrow night: Liveblogging the Presidential Debate

(Sarcasm-free post)

I love living in a town where every independent theater screens the presidential debates for free, and people are so politically activated and aware that 15 minutes before the debate even starts, a venue with 600 seats is completely full
