Just saw your blog. Wanted to make sure you knew that the build up of methane gas can and has caused explosions and fires at former dumps. A quick Google search shows that methane gas, if not released and burned off (like they are planning to do) can and has caused explosions and fires in former dumps.

The city is taking precautions to avoid a problem, but the possibility of trouble (and the unequal treatment) is definitely there. Again, it’s great to have a new park in our neighborhood. Being built on a former dump and the remediation it requires to make it useful definitely does highlight differences in the type of green spaces east Portland residents receive, though.
