JimmyP - Yeah, it's giving money he already owes, but it allows the city to not have to put up bonds for those funds. If the city bowrrowed that money using bonds then Paulson would repay it with rent down the line. It's a net zero situation but doesn't incur indebtedness on the city's books.
It's my own sensitivity: but the term 'storm troopers' referrred to Nazi troops before Lucas used it in his films.
Did we just witness Godwin's law?
GLV - that's the entire point. He had no opinion on financing of an arena that he (or his wife) materially benefitted from. But this deal, using much less public financing, he's up in arms about. He's avoided the legitimate questions raised by that at every turn.
ex TF - there's a decent amount of bullying and blowhard activity on both sides. Welcome to the internet.
I'm just waiting for Matt to explain his change in outlook on such projects. Did you click on the link?
Maybe you can explain it for him since he's not quacking a bit?
Maybe Merrit Paulson should hire your wife?
I'd argue that the effort and promise to relocate the Beavers from PGE Park was necessary to secure the MLS expansion award. MLS passed on Portland in 2007 because of the stadium situation, among other factors.
While there may not be a document detailing it (which was the actiual question posed by Nick Fish - about a document, not a general policy), it is something that MLS wants and it is something that many think makes better sense for both of the teams and the city in the long run.
