He had us reeling, with classic jokes like the ones about Motel 6 and some new ones w/ Octopi Portland. Very good at crowd interaction. I got to get a picture w/ Harland, picked up a book that he signed and even got him to do the Michael Jackson "shee-hee", which he said he patented for using after telling the punchline to his jokes after the King of Pop (& Maculey/Corey F. molestation?!) had died.
Excellent entertainment, well worth the money and I'm not even a big fan (but I am now :D!)

Liked being closer to the stage, went to NORM! MacDonald on 11/5 Saturday's late show. Can't buy the two item minimum if they don't have the proper waitstaff to even bring you your damned drinks for nearly 30 min. We had to order our second drinks when the first ones finally arrived, just to make sure we'd even get them in time before the show was over. The show had me laughing hysterically with Norm and Kevin Farely performing, but Helium's idiocy is inexcusable. They'll have to do a lot better if they want me to spend any more $ or eat there. Any of the owners or moron should know that closing a bar at 11:45 is a bad business move, as is treating Portlanders like deatbeats in the first place...

Great Comedians, service SUCKED! We were supposed to have reserved seating and due to a screw up on the clubs part we got stuck in the very back. It took forever for our waitress to come over and even take our orders. The food was finally brought out half way thru the second act and it was cold. Sent it back and it came back just barely warm. We were a group of 15 and when our Limo driver left early to bring the limo around, the waitress went after him and started yelling at him to pay his tab. Our boss was covering it, and she didn't even ask before she flipped out. Then today I check my bank account and the club charged me 75 dollars, and my tab was only 22 bucks. As far as I am concerned I WILL NEVER GO BACK!!!!!!!

Clearly, they want to sell comedy. Their competition wants to sell nachos. People attend Helium because they recognize a name or face and attend prepared to laugh.
That said, Helium still has a ways to go to distance themselves from the heavily-comp-driven margarita factory competition. Ditch the two item minimum signs. You're in Portland. The average customer will over-imbibe, the average slack will creep out in the back and drink water. Make the good customer feel welcome and he'll come back. No pressure. Treating everyone like the freeloader in the back doesn't feel good.
Also, the mural of Portland skyline is terrible. Give me Extremo the Clown's black light freakshow paintings in Mt. Tabor over poorly-executed paint mixing any day.
Other pluses include: 1) a real stage entrance, no performer struggling through crowd to microphone, 2) great sound and lights showcase pro acts perfectly.
Other downers include: overabundance of somewhat dull but overall courteous trendy-something staff clad in black, maze to restrooms, new-smelling office carpet dumps on classic interior.

Went there for Comedy is OK. The guys were funny as always, but good lord did the venue suck. There was a $5 cover plus a two-item minimum. My drink had virtually no alcohol in it and cost ten bucks. The service was terrible, then we got held hostage by the check (I eventually just walked out, but my friends stayed). The food was mediocre, but at least it wasn't as overpriced as the drinks. I had high hopes for this place.
