<![CDATA[The current best Portland burger award is between Meriwether's and Clyde Common. Should 23 Hoyt be in there too? It is a tough call.

Meriwether's uses an english muffin as a bun and includes slices of green tomato (is that what that vegetable is?). For $5 @ happy hour, it can't be beaten. Another dollar will fetch blue cheese.

Clyde Common serves their burger with thinly sliced pink and pickled onions that are a delight and a terrific ketchup, the name of which I have forgotten (paste/mash/??). Unfortunately, the Clyde Common burger bun is puffy and rather bland. The fries are top notch, but hold no specialness.

Meriwether's fries on the other hand are the most decadant plate of culinary lust this side of Baton Rouge: a big plate with gruyere and bone marrow sauce. Holy Jesus, what a treat! It is a must try for any Portland eater.

So there it is: Meriwether's currently holds the current best burger & fries in Portland award.

(As a side note, Meriwether's has a direct source relationship (ownership?) with a farm on Skyline, resulting in very local food. Yay.)

<![CDATA[I usually like Meriwether's, its convenient for lunch and happy hour, if a little swanky for my taste. On a recent lunch visit my companion and i both had solid tho somewhat unremarkable salads (caeser and chop), which makes for a good, if not exceptional and somewhat pricey lunch. But on their menu they announced that they are partnering with a specific farm to provide local food, and list what is being planted and what is being harvested. Its nice to know whats going on locally!
